American First Legal (AFL) filed a federal civil rights complaint against the Walt Disney Company.
According to AFL, Disney violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by “engaging in illegal race, sex, and national origin discrimination.”
AFL cited a document from Disney’s “Reimagine Tomorrow” website that “suggests that race, color, religion, sex, or national origin are often the only motivating factor in Disney’s hiring, training, and promotion decisions and that the company is intentionally discriminating against white American men, Christians, and Jews simply because of their race, sex, religion, and citizenship.”
The legal group noted that some of Disney’s “Inclusion Standards” call for 50% of certain jobs to be filled by those of “Underrepresented Groups.”
In its complaint, AFL wrote, “Disney has affirmatively represented to its shareholders, investors, and the Securities and Exchange Commission that it is and will continue to make employment decisions based on individuals’ race, color, national origin, or sex. Disney maintains multiple programs that facilitate the limiting, segregating, or classifying of employees or applicants for employment and new business in ways that would deprive or tend to deprive, white, male, or heterosexual individuals of employment, training, or promotions because of their race, color, sex, or national origin.”
“It is patently unlawful to consider racial, ethnic, and sex-based characteristics in hiring, training, compensation, and promotion,” the complaint adds. “Decades of case law have held that policies that impose racial balancing or quotas in employment, training, or recruitment, such as those presented on Disney’s websites, are prohibited.”
AFL President Stephen Miller said in a statement, “Disney appears to be engaged in pervasive, far-reaching, and illegal race and sex discrimination in violation of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Accordingly, we have filed a formal complaint with the EEOC that Disney is engaged in illegal conduct.”
“It is sad and tragic that a company whose name was once synonymous with wholesome and charming childhood fantasies is now dedicated to spreading divisive bigotry,” he continued. We urge Disney to cease and desist its unlawful and destructive conduct at once.”
