During a recent event on Daily Wire+, host Candace Owens stirred controversy by labeling Taylor Swift the “most toxic feminist that’s ever existed,” as reported by RadarOnline.com.
Owens made the declaration during a discussion with fellow host Matt Walsh, Ben Shapiro, Jeremy Boreing, Michael Knowles, and Andrew Klavan, where they touched upon various topics, including the renowned pop star.
The criticism aimed at Swift stemmed from her penchant for writing songs about exes and her ongoing battle to reclaim the rights to her music from music executive Scooter Braun, who acquired Big Machine Label Group in 2019.
“Obviously, if you’ve seen what she’s even done in business and how she tries to manipulate her audiences to get out of deals and contracts, she’s totally insane. She’s the most toxic feminist that’s ever existed,” Owens asserted during the conversation.
Owens also characterized Swift’s songs about exes as “psychotic” and dismissed her current relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce as a mere “business move” for both parties.
While Walsh mostly agreed with Owens’ sentiment, he questioned the assertion that Swift is the ‘most toxic feminist ever,’ deeming it a strong statement. Walsh emphasized the importance for conservatives to offer their cultural contributions to counteract Swift’s influence rather than simply criticizing or ignoring her.
According to Walsh, some of the criticism directed at Swift inadvertently benefits her, making her more relevant to audiences who might otherwise overlook her.
Owens further solidified her characterization of Swift as a toxic feminist by referencing the pop star’s 2014 statement regarding Girls actress Lena Dunham.
“She literally said, ‘Lena Dunham taught me feminism,’ which basically means that you can get whatever you want as long as you’re able to sell to people that you’re a victim because you’re a woman. And she has done it to the tune of a billion dollars,” Owens, a 34-year-old conservative commentator, argued.
