My mentor Bill Johnson’s profound words have guided us to the heart of the gospel: “Our assignment has never been about what we can do for God, but what can God do through us. That is the essence of the gospel: to do exactly what Jesus did and destroy the works of the devil.”
Divine Assignment:
Often, we approach our Christian journey with a mindset of doing things for God—a checklist of good deeds and moral conduct. However, Bill Johnson’s insight redirects our focus to the transformative truth that our primary assignment is to be vessels through which God works. Our lives are canvases upon which God paints His masterpiece.
Co-Laborers with Christ:
The essence of the gospel lies in our partnership with God, echoing the scriptural truth in 1 Corinthians 3:9, “For we are co-workers with God…” It’s not a matter of our ability but our availability. As we yield to God, His power works mightily through our surrendered lives.
Doing What Jesus Did:
Jesus, our ultimate example, didn’t merely perform acts of kindness or preach inspiring sermons. His life was a demonstration of the Father’s heart, a manifestation of divine authority over the works of the enemy. The gospel calls us to follow in His footsteps, participating in the ongoing work of destroying the devil’s works.
Transformative Impact:
When God works through us, lives are changed, hearts are healed, and darkness is dispelled. The essence of the gospel is not confined to religious rituals but is a dynamic force that transforms individuals and societies through the power of God at work in and through us.
Prayer:
Lord, help us shift our focus from what we can do for You to what You desire to do through us. May we embrace the essence of the gospel, becoming vessels of Your transformative power to destroy the works of the enemy. In Jesus’ name, amen.
As men of faith, let us understand that our lives are divine assignments, opportunities for God to showcase His redemptive and transformative power. May our journey reflect the essence of the gospel—God working mightily through surrendered hearts to destroy the works of the enemy.
