A man suspected of obstructing an investigation involving arsons of Jewish institutions has been extradited from Sweden, federal prosecutors said.
Alexander Giannakakis worked in security at the United States embassy in Stockholm, Sweden, when he was arrested in 2022.
Giannakakis has been waiting for proceedings since and is scheduled to appear in federal court this coming week.
The man was indicted by a federal grand jury in Boston on charges of making false statements of domestic terrorism, concealing records in a federal investigation, tampering with documents, and tampering with an official proceeding.
The Boston native was also reportedly arrested in Sweden after he was convicted of unlawfully possessing a firearm and other weapons.
Giannakakis is expected to appear in federal court Monday afternoon, the U.S. attorney’s office in Boston reported.
