Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) is proposing legislation that would allow lawmakers to have private security escorts through airports.
Aimed at enhancing the safety of political figures in airports, Cruz says the measure would help significant security threats to public officials.
The measure would also be extended to federal judges, Cabinet members, and some members of family and staff.
Head of the Airport Law Enforcement Agencies Network, Kevin Murphy, says the legislation would be “a burden to airport police agencies,” many of whom are already on tight budgets.
Cruz argues the bill is needed to help lawmakers travel “less visible” to the public.
