FBI and CIA personnel were positioned during the January 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol event, according to recently released videos and messages.
Footage from January 6, 2021, reveals the identity of another FBI agent present during the protest.
A man seen in the video is believed to be an FBI colleague of a former FBI liaison to Capitol Police Officer John Guandolo.
“This is huge,” a colleague says as protestors run up the U.S. Capitol steps.
Messages obtained by Judicial Watch via the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) reveal that the CIA positioned “several” teams on January 6.
In one of the messages, “two CIA bomb techs” were working on a “pipe bomb scene on New Jersey and D ST SE,” the location where two pipe bombs were reportedly found.
Another series of messages read, “What was the final in the devices real or not [redacted].” An individual writes: “Clearing Capitol now with bomb techs. Lots of damage.” The other person states the situation is “scary” and “sad,” adding, “Thx for keeping me in the loop brother. I was able to get I [sic] go to my team and the Director before they heard it from outside sources.”
Agents wrote in other messages, “Just made contact with [redacted] FBI is reporting an additional 3 possible devices for a total of 5 now.” A response reads: “Do you have the locations of the other devices?” The reply stated: “Not yet, the FBI is going to pass it on. I believe one was located at the gates to the Power Plant.”
The FBI had so many “Confidential Human Sources” (CHSs) from various field offices at the Capitol on January 6, 2021, that they “lost count,” according to a New York Post report.
The revelation led to an audit to determine the exact number.
Former assistant director of the FBI Steven D’Antuono shared the information with the House Judiciary Committee in a closed-door session.
Highlighting one specific instance, D’Antuono stated that a compensated informant affiliated with the Kansas City field office had relayed to his FBI contact that he was among the throng pushing into the Capitol.
While D’Antuono refrained from divulging the exact number, he mentioned that the audit confirmed “a handful” of informants were there on the day.
FBI Director Christopher Wray also avoided discussing FBI operatives present during the Capitol event.
Wray stated, “I would really have to see more closely exactly what he said and get the full context to be able to evaluate how many agents, or actually agents or human resources, were present at the Capitol complex and the vicinity on January 6.”
Throughout the Oversight of the Federal Bureau of Investigation hearing, Wray faced criticism for seemingly playing both sides, claiming unawareness about the presence of federal agents, doubting there were any undercover agents, and yet implying legal restrictions prevented him from fully discussing the topic.
According to investigative journalist Laura Loomer, there were also Ukrainian operatives and Neo-Nazis present at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.
According to Loomer’s investigation, the U.S. Capitol may have been “penetrated by Ukrainian spies,” suggesting a significant lapse in domestic security. “This means the US Capitol was penetrated by Ukrainian spies and the US Government and FBI have still not arrested these people or made the public aware of foreign penetration,” she said.
