President Biden will not undergo a cognitive test as part of his upcoming physical exam, the White House confirmed Monday.<\/p>\n
According to White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, Biden\u2019s physician, Dr. Kevin O\u2019Connor, does not deem a cognitive test necessary. Jean-Pierre noted that O\u2019Connor believes Biden demonstrates his cognitive ability \u201cevery day [in] how he operates and how he thinks.\u201d<\/p>\n
Reporters raised questions regarding this decision, citing last week\u2019s report from Special Counsel Robert Hur, which highlighted significant memory issues observed in Biden.<\/p>\n
\u201cDoes the White House think that the idea of the president taking a cognitive test as a part of this physical is a legitimate idea?\u201d queried a reporter.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m just gonna say what Dr. O\u2019Connor said to me about a year ago when [Biden\u2019s physical] was released,\u201d Jean-Pierre replied. \u201cThe president proves every day [in] how he operates and how he thinks, by dealing with world leaders, by making difficult decisions on behalf of the American people \u2013 whether it\u2019s domestic or it\u2019s national security.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThat is how Dr. O\u2019Connor sees it, and that is how I\u2019m going to leave it,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
Jean-Pierre passionately defended Biden when pressed further on the topic, emphasizing her more than a decade-long acquaintance with him and affirming him to be \u201csharp\u201d and \u201con top of things.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen we have meetings with him and his staff he is constantly pushing us, trying to get more information, and so that has been my experience with this president,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Recent polling indicates that Biden\u2019s age is a concern for a majority of Americans, including Democrats. A Sunday poll <\/a>from ABC\/Ipsos revealed that 86% of Americans believe Biden is too old to serve another term, with 73% of Democrats sharing this sentiment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
