Alan Shlemon of the apologetics ministry Stand to Reason watched the film and says its \u201ccore argument is based on the same argument that pro-gay theology advocates have advanced in the past.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe good news is that it\u2019s easy to spot the fallacies in this film,\u201d he wrote in a\u00a0blog<\/a> on Stand to Reason\u2019s website. \u201cThe bad news is that many people won\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n The Greek word (arsenokoitai<\/em>) in 1 Corinthians 6:9<\/a>, he wrote, \u201cdoes appropriately condemn homosexual sex.\u201d<\/p>\n The Greek word \u201cis formed by combining two Greek words, arsen<\/em>, meaning \u2018male,\u2019 and koite<\/em>, meaning \u2018lying.\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cArsenokoitai<\/em> literally means \u2018men who lie with a male,\u201d Shlemon wrote. \u201cIt\u2019s not surprising that the most prominent English translation today — the NIV (2011 revision) — translates the Greek as \u2018men who have sex with men.\u2019 Since such behavior is consistent with what male homosexuals do, it\u2019s not a stretch to see why many translation teams (not just the 1946 RSV) chose to render the Greek word as \u2018homosexuals.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Further, Shlemon argued, \u201cthere are many other passages in Scripture that corroborate the Bible\u2019s prohibition of homosexual sex.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cEven if it were true that the 1 Corinthians passage was poorly translated, it still wouldn\u2019t mean that homosexual sex was biblically permitted, which is what the filmmakers want you to eventually believe,\u201d he wrote. \u201cThere are several passages in Scripture that rule out homosexual sex or condemn it specifically. For example, in Matthew 19:4\u20136<\/a>, Jesus teaches that marriage is about one man, with one woman, becoming one flesh, for one lifetime. That alone rules out homosexual sex since he\u2019s quoting the Genesis account of creation, which presupposes male-female sex and marriage.<\/p>\n \u201cFurthermore, Jesus specifically condemns porneia<\/em> (\u2018sexual immorality\u2019) in Mark 7:21<\/a> — a Greek word his Jewish listeners would have understood to mean the prohibited sexual behaviors of Leviticus — one of which was homosexual sex. \u2026 Even if [the 1 Corinthians verse] was mistakenly translated, it wouldn\u2019t have any impact on the Bible\u2019s teaching on homosexual sex since the Mosaic Law, the apostle Paul, and Jesus himself taught that homosexual sex is a prohibited behavior.\u201d<\/p>\n Other passages, including Leviticus 18:22<\/a>, 20:13<\/a> and Romans 1:26\u201327<\/a> forbid homosexuality, Shlemon wrote.<\/p>\n \u201cIn other words, the Bible indirectly rules out homosexual sex by virtue of its teaching on sex and marriage and directly prohibits homosexual sex by citing it as sin,\u201d he wrote. \u201cThis is why the film is a non sequitur.\u201d<\/p>\n It is essential, Shlemon wrote, that the church educate Christians about \u201cthe false claims of this film.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cScripture warned us that a day will come when those who profess the name of Christ will reject the teaching of Christ,\u201d he wrote. \u201cIt even explains why they\u2019ll make films like 1946. Prior to his execution, Paul warned his prot\u00e9g\u00e9, Timothy, that a \u2018time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths\u2019 (2 Tim. 4:3\u20134<\/a>). Same-sex attraction is the desire, the filmmakers are the teachers, and Scripture\u2019s teaching on sexuality is the sound doctrine they\u2019re unwilling to endure.
