{"id":8947,"date":"2024-02-09T01:50:57","date_gmt":"2024-02-08T20:20:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cccfornews.com\/index.php\/2024\/02\/09\/hhs-assistant-secretary-condemned-for-offering-two-pages-of-support-for-gender-affirming-care\/"},"modified":"2024-02-09T01:50:57","modified_gmt":"2024-02-08T20:20:57","slug":"hhs-assistant-secretary-condemned-for-offering-two-pages-of-support-for-gender-affirming-care","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cccfornews.com\/index.php\/2024\/02\/09\/hhs-assistant-secretary-condemned-for-offering-two-pages-of-support-for-gender-affirming-care\/","title":{"rendered":"HHS Assistant Secretary Condemned for Offering Two Pages of Support for &#8216;Gender-Affirming Care&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Rachel Levine, the assistant secretary for the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), has been accused of violating scientific integrity policies after offering limited evidence for why \u201cgender-affirming care\u201d is \u201cnecessary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The allegations occurred after watchdog group Protect the Public\u2019s Trust (PPT) filed a Freedom of Information Act request for data supporting the claim that \u201cgender-affirming care is medically necessary, safe, and effective for trans and non-binary youth,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/hhs-says-it-has-only-two-pages-of-scientific-evidence-backing-its-support-for-gender-affirming-care\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Daily Wire<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>HHS provided a two-page document in response to the request.<\/p>\n<p>The document is not a scientific study supporting the HHS\u2019s claims, but is a <a href=\"https:\/\/opa.hhs.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/2023-08\/gender-affirming-care-young-people.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">paper<\/a> asserting that \u201cresearch demonstrates that gender-affirming care improves the mental health and overall well-being of gender-diverse children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The paper contains a singular footnote pointing to a study finding that transgender individuals were less suicidal when receiving treatment; 51% of trans-identifying young people were suicidal compared to 62% of those not receiving hormones.<\/p>\n<p>After receiving the documents, PPT wrote to the HHS Inspector General, alleging that Levine violated the department\u2019s scientific integrity policies by making politically-motivated claims.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen asked for \u2018records of scientific evidence, studies, and\/or data\u2019 and for \u2018records of surveys of medical professionals\u2019 to support these claims, HHS was able to provide only a single information sheet \u2013 essentially a piece of marketing material with cherry-picked data and agenda-driven assertions,\u201d the complaint read. \u201cThis is the opposite of science and evidence-based policymaking and flies in the face of the agency\u2019s pledge of \u2018adherence to professional practices, ethical behavior, and the principles of honesty and objectivity when conducting, managing, using the results of, and communicating about science and scientific activities.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn spite of voluminous scientific evidence from around the world, as well as a growing number of policy decisions in other countries that run in the opposite direction, Adm.
