\u201cMy son,\u00a0pay attention to what I say;\u00a0turn your ear to my words.\u201d <\/span>Proverbs 4:20<\/span><\/h3>\n\n

\u00a0<\/strong>We are bombarded with so many distractions on a daily basis.<\/strong> It takes a conscious effort on our part to remain focused, doing the things in life that are truly needed.<\/p>\n

Think of the story of Martha receiving Jesus into her home. Her sister Mary sat at the feet of Jesus, paying attention to Him and taking in every word. But Martha was busy in the kitchen, preparing everything so it was perfect for her guests. Naturally, she became frustrated with her sister, who wasn\u2019t doing anything to help out:<\/p>\n

\n

\u00a0<\/em>\u201c[Martha] came to [Jesus] and asked, \u2018Lord, don\u2019t you care\u00a0that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!\u2019\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2018<\/sup><\/em><\/strong>Martha, Martha,\u2019\u00a0the Lord answered,\u00a0\u2018you are worried\u00a0and upset about many things,\u00a0but few things are needed \u2014 or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her\u2019\u201d<\/em> (Luke 10:38<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Like Martha, we tend to be worried and distracted, giving attention to the challenges around us instead of the Word of God. But the only thing that\u2019s needed is to be like Mary, to sit at the feet of Jesus, soaking in His presence and His Word.<\/p>\n

Are you giving attention to the Word? Are you hearing from Him? Or have you allowed the distractions of the world keep you from listening to Jesus? Instead of fixating on life\u2019s challenges, meditate on the Word so that you can hear from Him.<\/p>\n

\n

\u00a0<\/em>Lord, give me the wisdom to deal the distractions in my life that are keeping me from attending to Your Word. Amen.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
