A YMCA camp in Chester, Connecticut, announced<\/a> that it will add an \u201call gender\u201d cabin this summer.<\/p>\n The cabin will house campers who \u201cdon\u2019t want to be in a traditional \u2018gendered\u2019 cabin for any reason,\u201d want to \u201ctry something new,\u201d or wish to stay with a friend, cousin, or sibling of the opposite gender.<\/p>\n \u201cThis includes campers whose identity may or may not fall into the male-female binary, including allies who would be interested in living in an all-gender space,\u201d the announcement reads.<\/p>\n Traditional cabins have also been labeled as \u201cBoys+\u201d and \u201cGirls+.\u201d<\/p>\n Boys and girls, \u201cregardless of sex assigned at birth as well as transgender and non-binary campers,\u201d may stay at these cabins.<\/p>\n The purpose of the cabins is to encourage students to \u201cfeel they belong.\u201d<\/p>\n Students attending the camp are in grades 3 and up.<\/p>\n
