Planned Parenthood recently posted a sexual education video on its social media platforms claiming that virginity is a \u201ccompletely made-up concept.\u201d<\/p>\n

The video, titled, \u201cWhat is Virginity<\/a>?\u201d features a woman dressed up as a teacher in a classroom who contends that virginity was \u201ccreated simply to control and shame people\u201d and is discriminatory against people who are not heterosexual.<\/p>\n

The women denounced virginity as \u201cwhack,\u201d because \u201csex means different things to different people.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut where does that definition leave queer people?\u201d she asked, adding that there are differing types of sexual engagement.<\/p>\n

According to Faithwire<\/a>, the woman also argued that there is a \u201cdouble standard\u201d when it comes to sex and virginity in relation to males and females, respectively.<\/p>\n

\u201cSociety can put pressure on men for not having sex at the exact same time that they shame women for having it,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cEither way, shame has no place in someone’s personal decisions about sex,\u201d the woman added.<\/p>\n

She went on to encourage viewers to \u201cthrow away the notion of \u2018losing your virginity’\u201d and consider it as \u201cgaining\u201d something instead.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause the truth is, when we make our own decision to become sexually active, we aren’t setting ourselves up to lose anything at all. We hope we are gaining things like intimacy, self insight, pleasure and empowerment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rather than going by the \u201churtful\u201d myths surrounding sex and virginity, the woman said that sex is ultimately defined by the individual, regardless of their sexual experience.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat’s the beauty of your sexual journey. You’re in charge, and you can figure it out on your own terms. Choosing to have sex \u2014 when, what kind, where, who with \u2014is something that only you get to define,\u201d she concluded.<\/p>\n

The video<\/a> has been viewed over 2 million times on X, formerly Twitter, since it was initially posted on Jan. 25.<\/p>\n
