A Harvard study published<\/a> in the journal Nature claims that \u201cclimate change\u201d negatively affects mental health.<\/p>\n The study used participant testimonials for data, assessing \u201chow people are struggling with worries about their future, and the impact of specific ecosystems on communities that rely very intimately on those ecosystems.\u201d<\/p>\n According to the study, negative emotions such as worry, grief, and frustration emerge when considering long-term climate change.<\/p>\n The Harvard Crimson<\/a> explained that previous research has \u201cfocused on the impact of short-term disasters such as hurricanes,\u201d whereas the new study addressed mental health outcomes associated with \u201cslower moving climate change.\u201d<\/p>\n Christy A. Denckla, an assistant professor at the T.H. Chan School of Public Health and a co-author of the study, said that testimonials from indigenous populations are a hallmark of the research.<\/p>\n The individual narratives point to \u201chow people are struggling with worries about their future, and the impact of specific ecosystems on communities that rely very intimately on those ecosystems,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n Denckla added that she believes \u201cmitigating disparities public health,\u201d as The Harvard Crimson wrote, will be \u201cone of the most important interventions and factors for consideration in addressing the association between mental health and climate change.\u201d<\/p>\n According to the World Economic Forum<\/a> (WEF), \u201cextreme weather events\u201d and \u201ccritical change to the earth systems\u201d are the two greatest long-term global threats.<\/p>\n \u201cAn unstable global order characterized by polarizing narratives and insecurity, the worsening impacts of extreme weather and economic uncertainty are causing accelerating risks \u2013 including misinformation and disinformation \u2013 to propagate,\u201d the WEF\u2019s Managing Director Saadia Zahidi said. \u201cWorld leaders must come together to address short-term crises as well as lay the groundwork for a more resilient, sustainable, inclusive future.\u201d<\/p>\n Meanwhile, an MIT scientist told<\/a> EpochTV\u2019s \u201cAmerican Thought Leaders\u201d in December that so-called climate change is not a danger to human life.<\/p>\n Richard Lindzen, professor emeritus of atmospheric sciences at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) said<\/a>, \u201cIf all other things are kept constant, and you double CO2, you would get a little under one degree of warming.\u201d<\/p>\n Describing the supposed \u201cexistential\u201d threat of the earth\u2019s temperature, Lindzen said, \u201cThe thought that this is existential and requires massive changes is unreasonable. It\u2019s absurd. In a way, CO2 is the dream of a regulator. If you control CO2, you control breathing. If you control breathing, you control everything.
