{"id":6929,"date":"2024-01-26T15:40:09","date_gmt":"2024-01-26T10:10:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cccfornews.com\/index.php\/2024\/01\/26\/nearly-30-of-americans-identify-as-religious-nones\/"},"modified":"2024-01-26T15:40:09","modified_gmt":"2024-01-26T10:10:09","slug":"nearly-30-of-americans-identify-as-religious-nones","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cccfornews.com\/index.php\/2024\/01\/26\/nearly-30-of-americans-identify-as-religious-nones\/","title":{"rendered":"Nearly 30% of Americans Identify as Religious &#8216;Nones&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_82\">\n<div class=\"tdb-block-inner td-fix-index\">\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/religion\/2024\/01\/24\/religious-nones-in-america-who-they-are-and-what-they-believe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">poll<\/a> from Pew Research found that 28% of Americans are religious \u201cnones.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, 31% of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/short-reads\/2024\/01\/24\/has-the-rise-of-religious-nones-come-to-an-end-in-the-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Americans<\/a> were religious \u201cnones.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Of those \u201cnones,\u201d 17% are atheist, 20% are agnostic, and 63% are \u201cnothing in particular.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sixty percent of the religious \u201cnones\u201d reported that they \u201cquestion a lot of religious teachings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More men among \u201cnones\u201d are atheists and agnostics than women, Pew <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/religion\/2024\/01\/24\/who-are-the-nones-how-are-they-defined\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">noted<\/a>, while women are more likely to be \u201cnothing in particular.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Religious \u201cnones\u201d are also \u201cless civically engaged and socially connected than people who identify with a religion,\u201d Pew explained. \u201cOn average, they are less likely to vote, less likely to have volunteered lately, less satisfied with their local communities and less satisfied with their social lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Forty-three percent of \u201cnones\u201d believe that religion does \u201cmore harm than good\u201d in American society,\u201d while 41% reported that religion does \u201cequal amounts of good and harm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Discussing the place of science in American society, 56% said that it does \u201cmore good than harm.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Almost half of the \u201cnones\u201d (44%) believe that there is a scientific explanation for everything.<\/p>\n<p>Religious \u201cnones\u201d also hold varying degrees of moral subjectivity.<\/p>\n<p>Eighty-three percent believe morality is determined by one\u2019s \u201cdesire to avoid hurting people,\u201d while 69% believe morality is based on what \u201cfeels good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Eighty-two percent of \u201cnones\u201d think \u201clogic and reason\u201d determine morality.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">2023 polling shows that 28% of U.S. adults now identify as religiously unaffiliated, with marginal shifts from previous years.
