{"id":5587,"date":"2024-01-17T11:00:29","date_gmt":"2024-01-17T11:00:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cccfornews.com\/index.php\/2024\/01\/17\/archaeological-evidence-supports-biblical-account-of-destroyed-city\/"},"modified":"2024-01-17T11:00:29","modified_gmt":"2024-01-17T11:00:29","slug":"archaeological-evidence-supports-biblical-account-of-destroyed-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cccfornews.com\/index.php\/2024\/01\/17\/archaeological-evidence-supports-biblical-account-of-destroyed-city\/","title":{"rendered":"Archaeological evidence supports biblical account of destroyed city"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<header>\n<\/header>\n<figure class=\"left\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"imgPhoto \" layout=\"responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/christiantoday-4cf9.kxcdn.com\/en\/full\/82845\/gath.jpg?w=380&amp;h=284&amp;l=50&amp;t=40\" height=\"284\" width=\"380\"\/><figcaption class=\"caption\"> One of the burnt bricks from Tell es-Safi used in the study.<span class=\"credit\">(Photo: Dr Yoav Vaknin)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Latest archaeological research has found evidence of extensive burning at a city mentioned in the Bible.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>2 Kings 17:17 gives an account of the destruction of the Philistine city of Gath by Hazael, king of Haram, who &#8220;attacked&#8221; and then &#8220;captured it&#8221; before going on to attack Jerusalem.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Researchers have been able to make new discoveries about the site, known today as\u00a0Tell es-Safi,\u00a0thanks to the development of technology that measures magnetic fields in burnt bricks and estimates the temperatures at which they were fired.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Using the technology on burnt bricks discovered in the city wall, they concluded that the evidence pointed to burning caused by a large fire during the city&#8217;s destruction rather than kiln-firing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The study was conducted by researchers at\u00a0the Sonia &amp; Marco Nadler Institute of Archaeology at Tel Aviv University and published in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/journals.plos.org\/plosone\/article?id=10.1371\/journal.pone.0289424\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PLOS ONE<\/a>\u00a0journal.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Excavations at the site have revealed &#8220;a well-defined destruction layer with extensive evidence of a site-wide destruction&#8221; and &#8220;massive burning&#8221;.
