Republican Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana was elected Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives following three weeks of infighting among GOP members. He delivered his first speech as speaker Wednesday, stressing that God raises up those in authority.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Johnson, 51, was elected in a 220-209 vote held Wednesday afternoon, in which all present Democrats voted for House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries of New York and all Republicans present voted for Johnson.<\/p>\n
