A few days later, the young woman died due to complications from a sepsis infection, which can be fatal.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.merckmanuals.com\/professional\/gynecology-and-obstetrics\/abnormalities-of-pregnancy\/septic-abortion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Merck Manual<\/a>, &#8220;Septic abortions usually result from use of nonsterile techniques for uterine evacuation after induced or spontaneous abortion. Septic abortions are much more common after induced abortion done by untrained practitioners (or the pregnant woman herself) and without adequate surgical equipment and sterile preparation.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/local\/local-las-vegas\/lawsuit-woman-died-after-not-being-treated-properly-following-abortion-2908866\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Las Vegas Review-Journal<\/a> reported, Dixon\u2019s family filed a complaint, alleging negligence on the part of Dignity Health\u2019s St. Rose Dominican Blue Diamond and one of the doctors there.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to the complaint, four days after Dixon obtained the abortion drugs, she started experiencing vaginal bleeding and a sharp pain in her lower abdomen. Dr. Hayden Maag, according to the complaint, did not consult an OB-GYN before discharging Dixon, nor did he conduct a pelvic exam.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The next day, Dixon went to Desert View Regional Medical Center, where she reported suffering from abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea. Dixon died early the next morning before being transferred to Summerlin Hospital Medical Center.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Providing safe, high-quality care to our communities is our highest priority, and we would like to express our deepest sympathy to the family of Ms. Dixon for their loss. Consistent with patient privacy laws and hospital policy, we do not comment on pending lawsuits,&#8221; a Dignity Health spokesperson told The Christian Post.<\/p>\n<p>Katie Daniel, state policy director for the pro-life organization Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, called for an investigation into the woman\u2019s death.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot only Alyona Dixon\u2019s family but the American people deserve answers. Any woman considering taking abortion pills must at least receive accurate medical information, not abortion lobby PR designed to maximize profits,\u201d Daniel said in a statement to The Christian Post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYet Nevada\u2019s radical pro-abortion laws lack almost any protections for babies in the womb or their mothers,\u201d she continued.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to the pro-abortion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/fact-sheet\/state-facts-about-abortion-nevada\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Guttmacher Institute<\/a>, Nevada\u2019s laws as of June 2022 allow abortion up to 24 weeks and beyond that in some instances. In May, Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo codified an existing executive order that prevents medical boards and commissions from disqualifying providers who perform abortions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In addition, state agencies are barred from helping with out-of-state investigations that could result in women facing prosecution for traveling to Nevada for an abortion.<\/p>\n<p>The pro-life state policy director also demanded that the Food and Drug Administration under President Joe Biden be held accountable for eliminating safety standards for abortion drugs and allowing women to obtain them without an in-person doctor visit.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAbortion pills are dangerous and do not belong on the market,\u201d Daniel added.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.christianpost.com\/news\/activists-react-to-5th-circuit-abortion-pill-ruling.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CP previously reported, <\/a>in August, the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a Texas federal court decision to restore the FDA&#8217;s pre-2016 regulations for the abortion pill while leaving the FDA\u2019s 2000 approval of the drug in place. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.christianpost.com\/news\/scotus-allows-abortion-pill-to-remain-on-market-for-now.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S. Supreme Court<\/a>\u00a0had previously allowed the abortion pill to remain on the market amid ongoing litigation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn loosening mifepristone\u2019s safety restrictions, FDA failed to address several important concerns about whether the drug would be safe for the women who use it,\u201d the court opinion, written by Judge Jennifer Walker Elrod, states. \u201cIt failed to consider the cumulative effect of removing several important safeguards at the same time.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sue Liebel, director of state affairs and Midwest regional director at SBA Pro-Life America, warned <a href=\"https:\/\/www.christianpost.com\/news\/fda-allows-abortion-pills-to-be-obtained-at-retail-pharmacies.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CP<\/a>\u00a0earlier this year that an FDA regulatory change to allow retail pharmacies to dispense abortion pill prescriptions would threaten women\u2019s health. The pro-life advocate cited a 2009\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/u7061146.ct.sendgrid.net\/ls\/click?upn=4tNED-2FM8iDZJQyQ53jATUdipVQGRST8ckDmUu3slvPecm1tjHDfQSCKk9UIWXHg3d22NqZcYSiaraFTLElfHBA-3D-3DKT5V_TKLbtihnP8LF0ccx4264M5OMOfncCmmnCjga5yDAhvCTGm3Wpq0yPbRCPfAwxDGdos-2FkQvkELIejafsFAJJMpQEgR9B2fkceB540xCnwCT1zR30yJPjNjC-2FLkgaN93zQK8k1gMGXo3PBDGoFEDKWuZx-2FKA6TKF0RH-2Bkm-2B33mVhnS3wPdMUmoMRCwY58Fqq4slUrNG3VgXMWQpEkrL0y5Hd-2FP7waYyWYjk-2Bmteffyfozml3F62cWE-2FlKfHrzzgfZVGohPiWdYTNXrVJ7fWwKlMnlBDrRSR25P4t8jgwxqLU8-2BXFL4qigvExbJ-2Fgt-2FJkn41Pq5GZgdi8Ow3F4Z0ciWaHzpAbZeje-2F-2Fa7jieaT2SRo-3D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">study<\/a>\u00a0that found chemical abortions have four times the complication rate of surgical abortions.<\/p>\n<p>She also cited a 2021 peer-reviewed longitudinal study conducted by the Charlotte Lozier Institute, the research arm for SBA Pro-Life America. In the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/full\/10.1177\/23333928211053965\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">study<\/a>, researchers found the rate of emergency room visits after a chemical abortion increased by over 500% from 2002 through 2015.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"article_credit\">\n<p>Samantha Kamman is a reporter for The Christian Post.
