Pence, who is seeking the Republican nomination for president in the 2024 presidential election, made his pitch to faith-based voters in the audience by declaring, \u201cthere\u2019s no greater threat to America\u2019s future than the collapse of the traditional family.\u201d<\/p>\n
Pence lamented that \u201cthe share of never-married adults has tripled since 1980,\u201d in addition to expressing concern about \u201cdeclining U.S. birth rates\u201d and the drop in the number of children born per year by 600,000 between 2007 and 2019. He vowed that \u201cwe will elect leaders from the White House to the state house who will champion the traditional family without apology.\u201d<\/p>\n
He attributed the collapse of the traditional family to the philosophy of the \u201cradical Left\u201d that views the traditional family as \u201csecondary to the state. They believe parents should have no rights in education. They believe the government should supplant the role of the family, literally, from the cradle to the grave.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI would submit to all of you, there has never been a time when renewing American families has been more urgent,\u201d he declared. \u201cIf we want to strengthen America, we have to strengthen the American family. Strong families make strong communities and strong communities make a strong nation.\u201d<\/p>\n
Pence used his platform at the annual conference to unveil his \u201cNational Pro-Family Strategy\u201d that will \u201crebuild the American family\u201d and \u201cput the American family first.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
The former vice president outlined his goals to \u201cencourage marriage, childbirth and adoption with national policies in this country,\u201d \u201cend the radical Left\u2019s assault on our kids and reject the transgender ideology that\u2019s taken hold of our schools,\u201d \u201cgive parents in every state the right to choose where their children go to school\u201d and \u201crestore the sanctity of life to the center of American law in every state in the land.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYou should be able to raise a family in America on one income if you choose to do so,\u201d Pence asserted. He recalled that in the 1980s, \u201cit took 40 weeks for the average American to earn enough money to support their family for the year.\u201d The former vice president contrasted the 1980s to today, where \u201cone parent has to work all year long\u201d to earn enough money to support a family.<\/p>\n
Pence outlined economic policies he would like to pursue if elected that he viewed as necessary to help Americans achieve the goal of supporting a family: \u201cWe\u2019ve got a plan to combat inflation. We\u2019re going to shut down runaway government spending, put us back on a path of a balanced budget. We\u2019re going to make it possible to lower interest rates on mortgages so more young families can live the American dream of home ownership.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
The former vice president also announced his intention to \u201cmake adoption affordable for every family in America.\u201d He explained that \u201cthe high costs associated with adoption often discourage prospective families from even thinking about it,\u201d adding, \u201cthe average adoption in this country costs about what the average income of Americans make every year.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Pence signaled that if elected, he would \u201cdirect the Department of Health and Human Services to consolidate the current web of grants, incentives, direct benefits to a mission-focused goal of making adoption zero cost for every American family.\u201d Another priority Pence listed as part of his agenda was protecting children from \u201cradical transgender ideology taking hold in our schools.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cAs your president, I promise you, we will end the Left\u2019s assault on women\u2019s sports,\u201d Pence stated. \u201cAnd on day one, I\u2019ll reverse Joe Biden\u2019s policies that promote transgender child procedures and surgeries everywhere in America.\u201d<\/p>\n
In addition, Pence proclaimed that \u201cwe will block federal funds to any hospital or healthcare provider that conducts surgical or chemical reassignment on children under the age of 18.\u201d He signaled his intention to \u201crestore parents\u2019 rights in education in every state in America\u201d as part of a commitment to \u201crecognize that families don\u2019t co-parent with the government.\u201d<\/p>\n
