{"id":15799,"date":"2024-03-28T09:51:07","date_gmt":"2024-03-28T04:21:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cccfornews.com\/index.php\/2024\/03\/28\/sacramento-passes-resolution-to-become-sanctuary-city-for-transgender-people\/"},"modified":"2024-03-28T09:51:07","modified_gmt":"2024-03-28T04:21:07","slug":"sacramento-passes-resolution-to-become-sanctuary-city-for-transgender-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cccfornews.com\/index.php\/2024\/03\/28\/sacramento-passes-resolution-to-become-sanctuary-city-for-transgender-people\/","title":{"rendered":"Sacramento Passes Resolution to Become Sanctuary City for Transgender People"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_82\">\n<div class=\"tdb-block-inner td-fix-index\">\n<p>California\u2019s Sacramento City Council voted unanimously to pass a resolution making the city a \u201csanctuary city for transgender people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/sacramento.granicus.com\/MetaViewer.php?view_id=21&amp;event_id=4988&amp;meta_id=771653\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">resolution<\/a> reads, \u201cCalifornia has been a leader in protecting the rights of transgender individuals to access care, but many states across the nation are moving in the opposite direction. In preparation of future legislation that may criminalize those providing or seeking gender-affirming care and given the Council\u2019s stated values of equity and inclusion, it is important for the City of Sacramento to be proactive in reiterating our commitment to transgender rights and equal protections for transgender people by declaring ourselves a sanctuary city and a place of safety for transgender people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis resolution would also resolve to ensure the rights of transgender individuals in Sacramento are upheld, and that no city resources \u2013 including staff time \u2013 would be used to detain individuals seeking care, or otherwise to cooperate with jurisdictions seeking to enforce laws criminalizing gender-affirming care in other jurisdictions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The vote followed a recognition of \u201cTransgender Week of Visibility.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Councilmember Kate Valenzuela celebrated the resolution, sharing on X, \u201cTonight, as we recognize Transgender Week of Visibility in the City of Sacramento, I was honored to introduce a resolution to declare Sacramento a Sanctuary City for Transgender People in partnership with DSA Sacramento.
