I expect the Congress to support my effort,\u201d\u00a0Biden\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2024\/03\/26\/remarks-by-president-biden-on-the-collapse-of-the-francis-scott-key-bridge\/#:~:text=And%20we're%20going%20to%20work%20with%20our%20partners%20in,going%20to%20take%20some%20time.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>\u00a0in a White House press conference. \u201cIt\u2019s gonna take some time. And the people of Baltimore can count on us, though, to stick with that every step of the way until the port is reopened and the bridge is rebuilt. We\u2019re not leaving until this job is done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked if the company behind the ship should be held responsible and pay for the repairs, Biden said, \u201cWe\u2019re going to pay to get the bridge rebuilt and open.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said the rescue operation was the top priority and that ship traffic in the Port of Baltimore has been suspended until further notice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll need to clear that channel before the ship traffic can resume,\u201d Biden said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s also the top port in America for both imports and exports of automobiles and light trucks. Around 850,000 vehicles go through that port every single year, and we\u2019re going to get it up and running again as soon as possible,\u201d Biden continued. \u201cFifteen thousand jobs depend on that port, and we\u2019re going to do everything we can to protect those jobs and help those workers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said the bridge is also \u201ccritical for travel\u201d for the northeast corridor. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver 30,000 vehicles cross the Francis Scott Key Bridge on a daily basis.
