Former Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer says he\u2019s in favor of age limits for justices.<\/p>\n
In an interview that aired Sunday on NBC News\u2019\u00a0\u201cMeet the Press,\u201d<\/a>\u00a0the 85-year-old jurist suggested more than a decade-long term is reasonable, and would have helped him in his own decision to retire.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t think that\u2019s harmful,\u201d he said of a double-digit term.<\/p>\n \u201cIf you had long terms, for example, they\u2019d have to be long. Why long? Because I don\u2019t think you want someone who\u2019s appointed to the Supreme Court to be thinking about his next job.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cAnd so, a 20-year term? I don\u2019t know, 18? Long term? Fine. Fine,\u201d he continued. \u201cI don\u2019t think that would be harmful.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI think it would have helped, in my case,\u201d he asserted. \u201cIt would have avoided, for me, going through difficult decisions when you retire. What\u2019s the right time?
