The state of Michigan is reportedly introducing a program offering citizens $500 a month to take in illegal migrants.<\/p>\n
The program, called the\u00a0Newcomer Rental Subsidy<\/a>, is set to\u00a0provide<\/a>\u00a0shelter for \u201crefugees.\u201d <\/p>\n The assistance would be available to homeowners for up to a year, according to MLive.com.<\/p>\n Amy Hovey, executive director of the Michigan State Housing Development Authority, said the program would help migrants \u201cbuild a new life here.\u201d<\/p>\n According to the state, those eligible include, refugees, asylees, special immigration visa holders, victims of human trafficking, Cuban and Haitian entrants, Afghan nationals, and Ukrainian humanitarian parolees.<\/p>\n Others who qualify include individuals who arrived under the Family Reunification Parole Process for El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Colombia, individuals with a pending asylum application, and other immigrant individuals on a case-by-case basis.<\/p>\n \u201cThis program is truly a win-win, as it addresses the most pressing barrier to refugee resettlement by meeting housing needs while setting up families for success with increased employment and opportunity,\u201d Hovey\u00a0said<\/a>\u00a0in a statement.<\/p>\n The program is reportedly paid for with $4 million funded from the Michigan Housing and Community Development Fund.<\/p>\n
