Launches &#8216;Resource Center&#8217; to Help Authorities Take Firearms From Those Deemed &#8216;Threat to Themselves or Others&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_82\">\n<div class=\"tdb-block-inner td-fix-index\">\n<p>President Joe Biden\u2019s Department of Justice announced over the weekend the launch of the \u201cNational Extreme Risk Protection Order Resource Center.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/justice-department-launches-national-extreme-risk-protection-order-resource-center\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">press release<\/a>\u00a0that the new national resource center \u201cwill provide our partners across the country with valuable resources to keep firearms out of the hands of individuals who pose a threat to themselves or others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe establishment of the Center is the latest example of the Justice Department\u2019s work to use every tool provided by the landmark Bipartisan Safer Communities Act to protect communities from gun violence,\u201d Garland said.<\/p>\n<p>Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs), often referred to as \u201cred flag\u201d laws, allow authorities to confiscate firearms from a person whom a court deems to be a risk to himself or others.<\/p>\n<p>The resource center, launched with a new\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/erpo.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">website<\/a>, is described as \u201ca resource for implementers\u201d that will \u201cprovide training and technical assistance to law enforcement officials, prosecutors, attorneys, judges, clinicians, victim service and social service providers, community organizations, and behavioral health professionals responsible for implementing laws designed to keep guns out of the hands of people who pose a threat to themselves or others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The National ERPO Resource Center website also provides a state-by-state guide for red flag laws across the country.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans took to social media to show their dissatisfaction of the center, saying they did not authorize the decision. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cA Federal Red Flag center; We did not authorize this. Announced, of course, just hours after the omnibus passes,\u201d Rep.
