And then the third line is, \u201cThe Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.\u201d And so <em>shalom<\/em> is that big idea of God reigning for the good of his people and their happiness and his glory. <em>Shalom<\/em> is in the benediction itself. That\u2019s the goal or the purpose.<\/p>\n<p>But when we step back and look at that in the larger biblical context, we see the face of God\u2014the beatific vision. That&#8217;s the highest happiness of every believer, to see the face of God unmediated, not just having to look with the eyes of faith but actually one day seeing with our eyes.<\/p>\n<div class=\"product-placement list-item clear\">\n<div class=\"product-placement-image\">\n    <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crossway.org\/books\/the-lord-bless-you-and-keep-you-tpb\/\"><\/p>\n<p>        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.crossway.org\/studio-files\/media\/92c871acbe0ed4f692eff203de10da671a100b9d.jpg\" alt=\"The Lord Bless You and Keep You\"\/><\/p>\n<p>    <\/a>\n  <\/div>\n<div class=\"post-excerpt\">\n<h3>\n          <em><\/p>\n<p>    <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crossway.org\/authors\/michael-glodo\/\">Michael J. Glodo<\/a><\/p>\n<p>          <\/em><br \/>\n        <\/h3>\n<p class=\"copy-excerpt\"><em>The Lord Bless You and Keep You<\/em> examines the Aaronic benediction to teach readers how God uses faces to shine the light of the gospel upon his people and bless those who believe in him.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>And so the Aaronic blessing not only contains but also anticipates the greater fullness of seeing God face to face, seeing our Creator and our Redeemer as he is, and as a consequence, sharing in his divine life, sharing in his beatitude, his blessedness.<\/p>\n<p>And so what the Aaronic blessing offers is actually the climax of what the Scriptures overall offer. Now, we have seen even more fully than Old Testament Israel did because we see the glory of God now in the face of Christ (2 Cor. 3\u20134). We look upon the face of God through faith by his word now in anticipation of that beatific vision in the end. That\u2019s the big promise. That\u2019s the big offer of the Aaronic blessing.<\/p>\n<p><em>Michael J.
