{"id":14845,"date":"2024-03-20T03:47:52","date_gmt":"2024-03-19T22:17:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cccfornews.com\/index.php\/2024\/03\/20\/smithsonian-pays-settlement-after-banning-christian-students\/"},"modified":"2024-03-20T03:47:52","modified_gmt":"2024-03-19T22:17:52","slug":"smithsonian-pays-settlement-after-banning-christian-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cccfornews.com\/index.php\/2024\/03\/20\/smithsonian-pays-settlement-after-banning-christian-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Smithsonian Pays Settlement After Banning Christian Students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_82\">\n<div class=\"tdb-block-inner td-fix-index\">\n<p>The Smithsonian\u2019s National Air and Space Museum has agreed to pay a $50,000 payment after banning Christian students wearing pro-life apparel.<\/p>\n<p>Students \u201cwere required to cover up their pro-life apparel, or leave the buildings, in violation of their free speech rights as protected by the First Amendment,\u201d  the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) <a href=\"https:\/\/aclj.org\/pro-life\/aclj-obtains-victory-in-lawsuit-against-smithsonian-one-of-the-largest-reported-settlements-against-federal-government-in-first-amendment-case-after-it-unconstitutionally-kicked-out-christian-students-for-wearing-pro-life-hats\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">shared<\/a>. \u201cNot long ago, the ACLJ achieved its first major victory against the National Archives in one of the cases we filed in support of those pro-lifers. Now, we have achieved our second major victory, this time in the case against the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum (Smithsonian).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last year, students attended Washington, D.C.\u2019s annual March for Life event and later visited the museum. The museum staff allegedly mocked the students and claimed the area was a \u201cneutral zone\u201d where pro-life statements could not be expressed. Students were then removed from the Smithsonian.<\/p>\n<p>As the students left the building, the employee was \u201crubbing his hands together in glee as they exited the building,\u201d the legal group wrote.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/media.aclj.org\/pdf\/Smithsonian-filed-Consent-Decree-3.18.24_Redacted.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">court documents<\/a>, the Smithsonian will also provide \u201ca private tour to be given by the director of the National Air and Space Museum, personal apologies, and the public dissemination of an \u2018after action\u2019 report that was conducted by the Smithsonian following the incident that occurred.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The museum will \u201cfurther reiterate via a bulk distribution method to all security officers stationed at all Smithsonian museums open to the public and the National Zoological Park, the current Smithsonian policy regarding the wearing of hats or other types of clothing with messages, including religious and political speech.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>ACLJ noted that the case is one of the \u201clargest reported settlements ever against the federal government in a First Amendment case.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A federal court has also entered the consent decree in the case.<\/p>\n<p>                    <!--begin code --><\/p>\n<p>                    <!--end code --><\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/americanfaith.com\/smithsonian-pays-settlement-after-banning-christian-students\/\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Smithsonian\u2019s National Air and Space Museum has agreed to pay a $50,000 payment after banning Christian students wearing pro-life apparel.
