{"id":1458,"date":"2023-09-08T20:11:28","date_gmt":"2023-09-08T20:11:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cccfornews.com\/index.php\/2023\/09\/08\/president-murmu-urged-to-resolve-ongoing-conflict-in-manipur-through-earnest-requests\/"},"modified":"2023-09-08T20:11:28","modified_gmt":"2023-09-08T20:11:28","slug":"president-murmu-urged-to-resolve-ongoing-conflict-in-manipur-through-earnest-requests","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cccfornews.com\/index.php\/2023\/09\/08\/president-murmu-urged-to-resolve-ongoing-conflict-in-manipur-through-earnest-requests\/","title":{"rendered":"President Murmu Urged to Resolve Ongoing Conflict in Manipur through Earnest Requests"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<figure class=\"figure-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.christiantoday.co.in\/files\/cache\/image\/2\/36\/23647_w_740_417.png\" data-slug=\"09cd8f7350b4\" width=\"740\" height=\"417\"\/><figcaption class=\"caption\"><span class=\"photo-des\">Draupadi Murmu, 15th president of India.<\/span> <span class=\"credit\">(Photo: India Today\/YouTube Screenshot)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Five Christian organisations from Nagaland have written to President Draupadi Murmu urging her to cease more than four months of sectarian unrest in Manipur.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are writing to urgently appeal for your intervention to end the ongoing conflict in Manipur,&#8221; read the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucanews.com\/news\/christians-urge-indian-president-to-end-manipur-violence\/102507\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">memorandum<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Nagaland Joint Christian Forum, Nagaland Theological Colleges Association, Christian Forum Dimapur,\u00a0 Dimapur Baptist Women Union and Dimapur Baptist Pastors Fellowship were among the five Christian organisations who actively filed the memorandum.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe earnestly request your support in rebuilding the churches and religious institutions that have suffered extensive damage due to the violence,\u201d Christian groups requested on September 3.<\/p>\n<p>The plea was sent to Nagaland&#8217;s governor, La Ganesan, and a copy was also given to Manipur&#8217;s chief minister, N Biren Singh.<\/p>\n<p>More than 350 churches have been burned in Manipur since the May 3 unrest between Kuki ethnic Christians and the Meitei Hindus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese institutions [churches] have historically played a vital role in fostering a sense of community, promoting values of peace and harmony and providing vital services to the people,\u201d said the Christian groups.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What is happening in Manipur is a human rights violation,&#8221; Reverend Zelhou Keyho, general secretary of the Nagaland Baptist Church Council, told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucanews.com\/news\/christians-urge-indian-president-to-end-manipur-violence\/102507\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">UCA News<\/a>, adding that the government has done nothing to quell the turmoil.<\/p>\n<p>In order to show support for the people of Manipur, the Nagaland Joint Christian Forum planned a peace demonstration in Dimapur on September 3.<\/p>\n<p>The four months of ethnic conflict have resulted in at least 181 fatalities and 50,000 displaced persons, the majority of whom were Christians.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async defer crossorigin=\"anonymous\" src=\"https:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/sdk.js#xfbml=1&#038;version=v9.0&#038;appId=1115032055618182&#038;autoLogAppEvents=1\" nonce=\"IeYpY26o\"><\/script><br \/>\n<br \/><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.christiantoday.co.in\/news\/earnest-requests-to-president-murmu-to-end-ongoing-conflict-in-manipur.html\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Draupadi Murmu, 15th president of India.
