Below are a few historical examples that have directly led to the pain biases seen today,\u201d the project\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.believemypain.com\/#pain-equity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">website<\/a> states.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile pain biases are a result of the pervasive nature of medical racism, it\u2019s important to know that countless healthcare professionals, researchers, and advocates have been working tirelessly to foster a more equitable healthcare system.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"\/>\n<p>The ad comes as a Democrat-led resolution <a href=\"https:\/\/americanfaith.com\/democrat-resolution-claims-racism-is-public-health-crisis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">declared<\/a> that racism is a \u201cpublic health crisis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) wrote, \u201cPublic health experts agree that significant racial inequities exist in the prevalence, severity, and mortality rates of various health conditions in the United States,\u201d explaining that life expectancies are \u201csignificantly lower\u201d than those of \u201cnon-Hispanic White people\u201d in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>In a press release for the resolution, Brown\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.brown.senate.gov\/newsroom\/press\/release\/sherrod-brown-booker-padilla-hirono-lead-resolution-declaring-racism-a-public-health-crisis#:~:text=Brown%20first%20introduced%20the%20resolution,them%2C%E2%80%9D%20said%20Senator%20Brown.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>, \u201cThis resolution is an important step toward recognizing the racial disparities in healthcare that have existed for far too long, while also outlining concrete action we can take now to help reverse them. Your background or the color of your skin shouldn\u2019t determine whether you get quality, respectful care, or whether your air and water are clean, or whether there\u2019s a good hospital nearby.
