The 81-year-old president was overheard requesting permission to address reporters in Saginaw on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCan I take a couple questions?\u201d President Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/03\/14\/us-news\/biden-asks-staffer-for-permission-to-take-questions-at-michigan-event\/?utm_campaign=iphone_nyp&amp;utm_source=pasteboard_app\">asked <\/a>a nearby staffer during the campaign event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, we\u2019re going to take a few questions,\u201d the staffer responded.<\/p>\n<p>However, instead of allowing the president to engage with reporters, Biden\u2019s staff redirected several journalists and escorted him off the stage, reportedly shouting, \u201cThank you. Press\u2026back in the vehicles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>President Biden faced online ridicule after a video clip of the incident went viral, with many social media users troubled by his need to seek permission before interacting with reporters and attendees.<\/p>\n<p>Conservative columnist Buzz Patterson tweeted, \u201cThis is bad. Really bad. They\u2019ve told his staff not to let him open his mouth,\u201d while Fox News contributor Joe Concha highlighted the incident as a factor contributing to declining poll numbers post-State of the Union.<\/p>\n<p>This was the second instance this week where President Biden requested permission to take questions after a campaign event.
