{"id":1418,"date":"2023-09-07T23:41:15","date_gmt":"2023-09-07T23:41:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cccfornews.com\/index.php\/2023\/09\/07\/california-school-district-denies-bible-club-request\/"},"modified":"2023-09-07T23:41:15","modified_gmt":"2023-09-07T23:41:15","slug":"california-school-district-denies-bible-club-request","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cccfornews.com\/index.php\/2023\/09\/07\/california-school-district-denies-bible-club-request\/","title":{"rendered":"California school district denies Bible club request"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"article_content\">\n<header>\n<div class=\"article-byline has-tools\">\n<div class=\"article-tools\"><a href=\"#cp-talk\" class=\"has-number talk-cp-255431\" data-scrollto=\".viafoura\" aria-label=\"Go to comments\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.christianpost.com\/assets\/img\/icon\/chat-rect.svg\" alt=\"\"\/><span class=\"number\"\/><\/a><a href=\"\" class=\"js-share\" aria-label=\"Share\" id=\"share-btn\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.christianpost.com\/assets\/img\/icon\/share-outline.svg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/header>\n<figure class=\"img-box align-center center\" itemscope=\"\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/ImageObject\"><picture width=\"760\" height=\"505\"><source type=\"image\/webp\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.christianpost.com\/images\/cache\/image\/14\/46\/144675_w_760_505.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.christianpost.com\/images\/cache\/image\/14\/46\/144675_w_760_505.jpg\" class=\"type:primaryImage\" width=\"760\" height=\"505\"\/><\/source><\/picture><figcaption class=\"caption\"><span class=\"photo-des\">Bible on a school desk in a classroom.<\/span> | <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A school district in California has been accused by a conservative legal group of wrongfully prohibiting a Christian student club from meeting at a local elementary school.<\/p>\n<p>Hayward Unified School District allegedly rejected multiple requests from Child Evangelism Fellowship to let one of its Good News Club chapters meet at Fairview Elementary School.<\/p>\n<p>Liberty Counsel recently sent a <a href=\"https:\/\/lc.org\/PDFs\/090523Ltr-toHaywardUSDredenialoffacilitiesspace-08212023_Redacted.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">letter<\/a> to HUSD Superintendent Jason Reimann demanding that the school district \u201cimmediately approve CEF\u2019s renewed facilities use request to hold a Good News Club after school on campus at Fairview Elementary School.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPrior to COVID-19, a Good News Club was held for numerous years immediately after school at Fairview Elementary,\u201d the legal group stressed in their letter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe District permits other similarly-situated groups to meet directly after school at multiple locations, including Girl Scouts \u2026 and Girls on the Run.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Liberty Counsel Founder and Chairman Mat Staver said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/lc.org\/newsroom\/details\/090523-california-school-district-denies-equal-access-to-bible-club-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> that it is unlawful for the school district to deny the club&#8217;s meeting request.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccording to the law, Good News Clubs must be given equal access as the non-religious groups on public school campuses,\u201d stated Staver. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEqual access means equal treatment including the use of on-campus facilities, fee waivers, time of meetings, and announcements. Liberty Counsel will work to ensure this happens.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A Hayward Unified School District spokesperson told The Christian Post that officials \u201care investigating this matter and have no comment at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2001, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 6-3 in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oyez.org\/cases\/2000\/99-2036\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Good News Club v.
