A progressive leaning LGBT outlet recently characterized California pastor John MacArthur of Grace Community Church as an \u201cold white hate pastor\u201d following MacArthur’s recent comments about Martin Luther King Jr.’s faith. <\/p>\n
According to The Christian Post<\/em><\/a>, LGBTQ Nation, which is owned by San Francisco-based Q.Digital Network, denounced MacArthur for contending that King was a \u201cnon-believer\u201dand \u201cnot a Christian at all\u201d during a Q&A session<\/a> at his church last month.<\/p>\n At the time, an attendee asked the pastor concerning his thoughts on two Evangelical organizations, The Gospel Coalition (TCG) and Together for the Gospel (T4G). MacArthur, in response, recalled a brief history of the now-defunct T4G and noted how the TGC strayed from its original mission despite launching with \u201cnoble intent.\u201d<\/p>\n Although TCG paid tribute to the late theologian R.C. Sproul, the organization did the same for King years later.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not saying he didn\u2019t do some social good, and I\u2019ve always been glad he was a pacifist or he could\u2019ve started a real revolution,\u201d MacArthur added. \u201cBut you don\u2019t honor a non-believer who misrepresented everything about Christ and the Gospel in an organization alongside honoring somebody like R.C. Sproul.”<\/p>\n In response to MacArthur\u2019s remarks, LGBTQ Nation defended King as a Christian including his ministry in Montgomery, Alabama, his \u201cPh.D. in systematic theology,\u201d and said King \u201cis widely regarded as a distinctly Christian and moral civil rights icon.\u201d<\/p>\n The outlet also accused MacArthur of allegedly making “numerous racist and anti-[LGBT] statements throughout his career,\u201d including a 2001 sermon\u00a0<\/a>in which he contended, \u201cThe Bible is abundantly clear, slavery is the heart of what it means to be a true Christian,\u201d and \u201cChristianity does not free slaves. Christianity does not give equal social rights\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n MacArthur was also referred to as an \u201cold, white, hate pastor\u201d by the outlet, which previously used\u00a0<\/a>the same title for Pastors John Hagee, Jack Hibbs, and other pastors who teach homosexuality is a sin.<\/p>\n LGBTQ Nation in 2019 called<\/a> Evangelical leader Tony Perkins \u201cpresident of the hate group Family Research Council,\u201d and often cites\u00a0<\/a>the Human Rights Campaign, which described\u00a0<\/a>prominent conservative and Christian organizations as “the enemy” in a “state of emergency” report in June 2023 on \u201canti-LGBT\u201d legislation.<\/p>\n Image credit: John MacArthur Facebook<\/em><\/p>\n Milton Quintanilla is a freelance writer and content creator.
