FALLON\/AFP via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Actress Da&#8217;Vine Joy Randolph stressed that \u201cGod is so good\u201d and honored her mother after winning the award for Best Supporting Actress at the 2024 Academy Awards for her role in the film \u201cThe Holdovers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;God is so good,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Fia9mFKxwXM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">she began<\/a>. &#8220;God is so good. You know, I think I was supposed to be doing this as a career. I started off as a singer, and my mother said to me, go across that street to that theater department: There&#8217;s something for you there. And I thank my mother for doing that.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Randolph continued: &#8220;I thank you to all the people who have stepped in my path and have been there for me. Who has ushered me and guided me. I am so grateful to all you beautiful people out here. For so long, I&#8217;ve always wanted to be different, and now I realize, I just need to be myself. And I thank you. It\u2019s there that she forms an unlikely bond with a brainy but damaged student and a curmudgeonly instructor (Paul Giamatti) who are forced to stay on campus during Christmas break.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Da&#039;Vine Joy Randolph Accepts the Oscar for Actress in a Supporting Role - The Oscars 2024\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Fia9mFKxwXM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Randolph previously won awards at the Golden Globes, the BAFTAs, Critics&#8217; Choice Awards, SAG Awards and others for the role. With her big win on Sunday, the actress beat out Emily Blunt (\u201cOppenheimer\u201d), Danielle Brooks (\u201cThe Color Purple\u201d), America Ferrera (\u201cBarbie\u201d) and Jodie Foster (\u201cNyad\u201d).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Randolph <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/entertainment\/movies\/2024\/01\/03\/davine-joy-randolph-holdovers-interview\/72068827007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously explained<\/a> that she believes her career success is evidence that \u201cGod has a bigger plan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been the \u2018breakthrough\u2019 in almost every project I\u2019ve done,\u201d the 37-year-old told USA Today. \u201cAt first, I thought that was bad, like, \u2018Dang, am I not that memorable?\u2019 But I had to reframe that in my mind: If you\u2019re fresh and new and being discovered in every project, that\u2019s a win.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can seemingly be going along and everything is great, and then you slide down. But if you keep playing, you can jump right back up. And that\u2019s life, especially in this industry. It\u2019s more about trusting that your path is your path.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Though rated R and not a faith-based film, \u201cThe Holdovers\u201d has been applauded by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegospelcoalition.org\/article\/best-movies-2023\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Christian critics<\/a> for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pluggedin.com\/movie-reviews\/holdovers-2023\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emphasizing \u201cgrace\u201d <\/a>and serving as a \u201clovely celebration of the life-giving necessity of friendship, mentorship, and found family in a lonely world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn truth, \u201cThe Holdovers\u201d features a sense of healing that is mutual amongst all three left at the school. The path that takes them there provides gentle lessons of compassion for all involved in community making. And, for Christian people, that\u2019s all of us!\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/anglicanfocus.org.au\/2024\/02\/14\/the-holdovers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote another <\/a>Christian critic.<strong><br \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Other big winners at the awards show on Sunday night, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, included \u201cOppenheimer,\u201d which took seven awards during the night: Christopher Nolan won Best Director, Cillian Murphy won Best Actor and Robert Downey Jr. won Best Supporting Actor. The film also won awards for Best Cinematography, Best Original Score and Best Film Editing.<\/p>\n<p>Emma Stone won Best Actress for &#8220;Poor Things,&#8221; which also won awards for best costume design, production design, and makeup and hairstyling.<\/p>\n<p>Hayao Miyazaki and Toshio Suzuki\u2019s &#8220;The Boy and the Heron&#8221; was named Best Animated Feature, while Billie Eilish and Finneas O\u2019Connell won the Oscar for Best Original Song for \u201cWhat Was I Made For?\u201d from &#8220;Barbie.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"article_credit\">\n<p>Leah M.
