Huntington Beach voted to pass a measure that would restrict most flags on public property, striking outrage among LGBT activists.<\/p>\n
The measure, which passed by about 58% of the vote, only allows the American flag, the California flag, the county flag, the city flag, the POW-MIA flag, the flags of the six Armed Forces, and the Olympic flag during the Olympic Games, to be displayed in public areas.<\/p>\n
Other flags can be flown if they receive unanimous approval by the Huntington Beach City Council.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey flat-out said this is not about banning the Pride flag,\u201d councilmember Dan Kalmick said<\/a>, adding, \u201cOf course it\u2019s about the Pride flag.\u201d<\/p>\n According to a report from KTLA 5, banned flags include \u201cPride, Breast Cancer Awareness, and religious flags on city property.\u201d<\/p>\n The ordinance passed in the Huntington Beach City Council last year and is not part of the City Charter.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
