{"id":13307,"date":"2024-03-09T22:26:40","date_gmt":"2024-03-09T16:56:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cccfornews.com\/index.php\/2024\/03\/09\/activist-organization-paid-students-to-attend-social-justice-training\/"},"modified":"2024-03-09T22:26:40","modified_gmt":"2024-03-09T16:56:40","slug":"activist-organization-paid-students-to-attend-social-justice-training","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cccfornews.com\/index.php\/2024\/03\/09\/activist-organization-paid-students-to-attend-social-justice-training\/","title":{"rendered":"Activist Organization Paid Students to Attend Social Justice Training"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Activist group Californians for Justice (CFJ) paid students in the Long Beach Unified School District $1,400 to attend racial and social justice training, according to contracts obtained by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefp.com\/p\/californians-for-justice-paid-1400-highschoolers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Free Press<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Californians for Justice seeks to advance \u201cracial equity,\u201d according to its website. \u201cTo truly advance racial equity in our schools we must acknowledge how race and racism play key roles in shaping the experiences of young people on three levels \u2013 institutional, interpersonal, and internal,\u201d it <a href=\"https:\/\/caljustice.org\/issues\/racial-equity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reads<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to replace our current outdated model of education with models that center race and relationships as the key for students of color to thrive,\u201d the organization adds. \u201cSince its beginning, our education system has been based in a \u2018factory model\u2019 design that is no longer relevant to the young people of today. We\u2019ve had a one-size-fits-all model of education for over 100 years and now need an education system that is organized around students\u2019 racial identities, needs and experiences.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Between 2019 and 2023, the school district <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1D-cPf2bPIH9WQPvrxh1cyGRny2OS2dJB\/view\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">paid<\/a> the organization about $2 million for the training program.<\/p>\n<p>According to the contracts, about $100,000 was given to at least 78 students participating in the taxpayer-funded activity.<\/p>\n<p>In an October 2021-June 2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1B9-0GdduEt_O1Dn_uokX4y1EnSv7BcPu\/view\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">contract<\/a>, the program\u2019s purpose was described as \u201cintentionally [weaving] in student voice by co-creating racial equity initiatives rooted in youth experience.\u201d To accomplish this goal, the contract described \u201cCoaching for Middle School team on the Equity Transformation Cycle (ETC) and \u201cStudent-Led Professional Development.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Following the October 7 attack on Israel by Hamas, CFJ <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/cal4justice\/p\/Cywrt3uuXLs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">produced<\/a> pro-Palestine content and suggested Israel was involved in \u201cethnic cleansing.\u201d In response to complaints, students with CFJ said the group was \u201ctargeted by racist and xenophobic harassment for our support for Palestinian human rights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When The Free Press inquired about the contracts, a spokesperson for the school district defended the training, describing the payment as \u201cinternships\u201d ensuring \u201cequitable participation in CFJ programs, embracing diverse perspectives in education.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>                    <!--begin code --><\/p>\n<p>                    <!--end code --><\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<br \/><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/americanfaith.com\/activist-organization-paid-students-to-attend-social-justice-training\/\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Activist group Californians for Justice (CFJ) paid students in the Long Beach Unified School District $1,400 to attend racial and social justice training, according to contracts obtained by The Free Press.
