Expelled GOP Rep. George Santos Declares Bid for Congress Against NY Republican Who Backed His Ouster<\/p>\n

Former GOP Rep. George Santos announced his candidacy for Congress once more, challenging a fellow New York Republican who supported his expulsion.<\/p>\n

The announcement came Thursday evening via X, coinciding with Santos\u2019s attendance at President Biden\u2019s State of the Union address in the House chambers. Santos aims to contest Rep. Nick LaLota in New York\u2019s 1st Congressional District.<\/p>\n

It remains uncertain from Santos\u2019s statement whether he plans to launch a late 2024 bid. New York\u2019s primaries are scheduled for early April, and the feasibility of Santos\u2019s candidacy, including ballot access, remains unclear.<\/p>\n

Following his victory in the 2020 House race, the first-time politician faced allegations of fabricating much of his resume, which he presented during his successful campaign.<\/p>\n

In October, Santos was indicted<\/a> in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York on various federal charges, including wire and credit card fraud linked to campaign contributions.<\/p>\n

\u201cNew York hasn\u2019t had a real conservative represent them since I left office arbitrarily, thanks to RINO, empty suits like @nicklalota. He is willing to risk the future of our majority and the future of this country for his own political gain,\u201d Santos posted on X.<\/p>\n
