Films \u201cJesus Revolution\u201d and \u201cSuper Mario Bros Movie,\u201d along with actors Dennis Quaid and Lori Loughlin, took home top honors at the 31st annual Movieguide Faith & Values Awards Gala honoring the best in cinema and television that uplift family and faith values.<\/p>\n

Hosted by Trevor Donovan and Danica McKellar of Great American Family, the event was held on Feb. 9 at the iconic Avalon Theatre in Hollywood and debuted on Great American Family on March 7.<\/p>\n

“Super Mario Bros Movie” was named Best Family Movie, while “A Paris Christmas Waltz” took home the award for Best Family TV. “Jesus Revolution” won Best Movie for Mature Audiences, and “Chicago P.D.” episode \u201cNew Life\u201d was awarded Best TV for Mature Audiences.<\/p>\n

In recognition of films and shows that highlight freedom and faith, the Faith & Freedom Award for Movies was awarded to “Sound of Freedom,” starring Jim Caviezel. For TV, the award went to Prime Video\u2019s “A Million Miles Away.” The Grace Prize, celebrating outstanding performances that exemplify God\u2019s grace, was given to Quaid for \u201cOn a Wing and a Prayer\u201d and Loughlin for \u201cA Christmas Blessing\u201d in their respective categories.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn’t ever see this happening. \u2026 I love making movies, I’m really blessed to do what I love, so thank you,\u201d the \u201cFull House\u201d actress said while accepting her award.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The evening also featured a number of musical performances, including one from Quaid and Grammy-nominated artist Blessing Offor, who performed \u201cBrighter Days.\u201d The night concluded with a prayer led by \u201cFull House\u201d actress Candace Cameron Bure.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was the most entertaining, enthusiastic and blessed Movieguide in 31 years. I am grateful for God\u2019s grace and everyone involved who made it great,\u201d said Ted Baehr, executive producer and publisher of Movieguide.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Overall, 2023 marked a successful year for faith-based and uplifting films and television series.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Lionsgate\u2019s \u201cJesus Revolution,\u201d <\/a>which hit theaters in early 2023 and stars Kelsey Grammer, grossed $52 million domestically and was given an A+ CinemaScore grade by moviegoers. Angel Studio\u2019s \u201cSound of Freedom\u201d grossed nearly $250 million worldwide<\/a>, outperforming big-budget films including \u201cIndiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny\u201d and \u201cMission: Impossible \u2013 Dead Reckoning Part One.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cA Million Miles Away,\u201d<\/a> starring Michael Pe\u00f1a, Rosa Salazar and Julio C\u00e9sar Cedillo, tells the inspiring true story of devout Christian Jos\u00e9 Hern\u00e1ndez, a migrant turned NASA astronaut. The film garnered several award nominations,\u00a0 earned the No. 1 spot on Amazon Prime for several weeks and received a 96% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Andy Erwin, one of the directors of \u201cJesus Revolution,\u201d told The Christian Post that the success of such faith-based films and the star power they are attracting is evidence of Hollywood’s awakening to the underserved faith community.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it’s really a moment in time where there’s been a group of individuals that have all been trying to work behind the scenes to tell stories of faith. But collectively, whether it’s through \u2018The Chosen\u2019 or \u2018Sound of Freedom,\u2019 or what we did with \u2018Jesus Revolution,\u2019 all of a sudden, it’s been legitimized,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
