So I try to capture both.\u201d<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Although she told judges that auditioning for <em>American Idol<\/em> has \u201cbeen mentioned to me a lot,\u201d she felt unsure if she was \u201cgood enough.\u201d She also thought that the video she sent in would not be seen but it was, <a href=\"https:\/\/churchleaders.com\/news\/471752-jennifer-jeffries-american-idol-judges-song-struggling-sin.html\">Church Leaders<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n<p>Jeffries&#8217; mom, Sheila, had videos of family members singing songs that her daughter wrote when she was nine. Jeffries commended her family for being \u201cso supportive,\u201d saying, \u201cThey\u2019re like my backbone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jeffries then performed her original song \u201cChange My Ways\u201d in front of <em>American Idol <\/em>judges, Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve got a Bible on my desk \/ With no highlights, creases \/ Oh, pages are still crisp,\u201d Jeffries began.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have been feeding the flesh,<br \/>I have been living in sin.<br \/>My mouth\u2019s been running wild,<br \/>And I\u2019ve been acting like a wild child,\u201d the song continued.<\/p>\n<p>As the song progresses, Jeffries sings that she is devoted to praising God for the rest of her life: \u201cI\u2019ve finally changed \/ Lord, make your ways my ways.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve got a Bible in my hands \/ With faded pages \/ And highlighted paragraphs,\u201d the song concludes.<\/p>\n<p>In response, the judges shared how impressed they were by Jeffries\u2019 voice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was not expecting that voice,\u201d Bryan said, noting that it was the first time the judges heard a voice that was \u00a0\u201camazingly unique.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I\u2019m in love with is your uniqueness,\u201d Richie told Jeffries.<\/p>\n<p>Perry pointed out that Jeffries has a \u201cunique grit\u2026 it\u2019s so Mississippi.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bryan depicted the young singer\u2019s voice as an \u201cindie film soundtrack voice,\u201d while Perry said \u201cIt\u2019s so raw.\u201d She added, \u201cI can hear that diamond in the rough-ness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The pop star also asked Jeffries if \u201cJennifer Jeffries\u201d was her real name. When Jeffries answered in the affirmative, Perry said, \u201cNames are not an accident. That is your soul right there, and your soul done named you for stardom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She subsequently gave her yes for Jeffries to go to Hollywood, followed by Richie and Bryan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m at a loss of words right now! I cannot express how thankful i am to be going to HOLLYWOOD!!!!
