The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is spending millions of dollars to address HIV among \u201cracially diverse trans women.\u201d<\/p>\n
HHS is granting<\/a> Public Health Foundation Enterprises $2 million to \u201cdevelop, implement and measure the impact\u201d of a social media program designed to increase awareness of HIV among transgender women.<\/p>\n \u201cSouthern states are disproportionately impacted by HIV,\u201d a description of the grant reads. \u201cAmong states in the deep south, which frace the vast majority of new HIV infections, HIV diagnoses rates in Louisiana were second only to Georgia.\u201d<\/p>\n Forty-six percent of transgender women tested positive for HIV in New Orleans, the grant notes.<\/p>\n The goal of the grant is to \u201cadapt promising trans-specific HIV interventions to meet the HIV prevention needs of trans women in New Orleans, Louisiana.\u201d<\/p>\n The grant began on September 17, 2021, and runs through July 31, 2026.<\/p>\n Joe Biden has made transgenderism a focal point of his presidency.<\/p>\n During last year\u2019s \u201cTransgender Day of Visibility,\u201d Biden declared<\/a> that transgender individuals are \u201cmade in the image of God and deserving of dignity, respect, and support.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019ll never stop working to create a world where you won\u2019t have to be brave just to be yourself,\u201d Biden wrote on X.<\/p>\n Similarly, during November\u2019s \u201cTransgender Day of Remembrance,\u201d the White House issued a statement<\/a> reading, \u201cMy Administration ended the ban on transgender Americans serving our country and I signed historic executive action to strengthen civil rights protections for all LGBTQI+ Americans.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe Department of Homeland Security, with support from the Department of Justice and the Department of Health and Human Services, have launched the LGBTQI+ Community Safety Partnership that works hand-in-hand with LGBTQI+ community organizations to provide critical safety resources,\u201d the statement added. \u201cWe must never be silent in the face of hate.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
