{"id":12674,"date":"2024-03-05T10:22:32","date_gmt":"2024-03-05T04:52:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cccfornews.com\/index.php\/2024\/03\/05\/pastor-steve-gaines-grateful-to-god-for-miracles-and-medicine-as-cancer-diagnosis-improves\/"},"modified":"2024-03-05T10:22:32","modified_gmt":"2024-03-05T04:52:32","slug":"pastor-steve-gaines-grateful-to-god-for-miracles-and-medicine-as-cancer-diagnosis-improves","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cccfornews.com\/index.php\/2024\/03\/05\/pastor-steve-gaines-grateful-to-god-for-miracles-and-medicine-as-cancer-diagnosis-improves\/","title":{"rendered":"Pastor Steve Gaines &#8216;Grateful to God for Miracles and Medicine&#8217; as Cancer Diagnosis Improves"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.swncdn.com\/via\/images\/2023\/11\/20\/33691\/33691-untitled-design-2_source_file.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Memphis pastor Steve Gaines says in a new video that much of his cancer has disappeared and that he is \u201cgrateful to God for miracles and medicine\u201d and looks forward to being back in the pulpit.<\/p>\n<p>Gaines, the pastor of Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis, Tenn., and the president of the Southern Baptist Convention from 2016 to 2018, was diagnosed last fall with kidney cancer.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/HXy7jn30Wss?si=iImzn1fRCNR7L_t_\">video<\/a> released Friday, Gaines said his health has improved following treatment and prayer.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"An Update from Bro. Steve | Bellevue Baptist Church\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HXy7jn30Wss?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe Lord has done a great thing in our lives, and we are glad,\u201d he said. \u201cThe last PET scan that I had showed that there were no more polyps of cancer in my lungs &#8212; the previous PET scan, there were multiple polyps there, but they&#8217;ve all gone. And we&#8217;re grateful for that. Also, I [previously] had cancer in my rib on the left side &#8212; it also has diminished, it&#8217;s gone as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The cancer in his kidney \u201chas also gone down significantly,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo I still have cancer, but it&#8217;s really, really going away and I&#8217;m grateful to God for miracles and medicine,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Gaines, though, said his myasthenia gravis &#8212; a chronic neuromuscular disease &#8212; has \u201cbeen reenacted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;ve had this for 24 years, and it&#8217;s not lethal,\u201d he said. \u201cBut because my immune system has gone up so much, which is a great thing, because of the immunotherapy and the targeted drugs &#8212; that&#8217;s good for my cancer, but it&#8217;s rough on my myasthenia. So some of my muscles are weak, my neck is where it has primarily hit this time. But I just want you to keep praying for that. But that&#8217;s more of a nuisance than anything else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gaines returned to the pulpit Sunday and received a standing ovation. He sat in a chair as he preached.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe love you, too,\u201d a smiling Gaines told members.<\/p>\n<p><em>Image credit: Bellevue Baptist.
