Tesla CEO Elon Musk is suing\u00a0OpenAI\u00a0and its CEO, Sam Altman, claiming their development of\u00a0artificial intelligence\u00a0\u201cfor the benefit of humanity broadly\u201d has proven to be false. <\/p>\n
Musk\u2019s lawyers claimed the billionaire was approached in 2015 by Altman and OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman and agreed to form a nonprofit lab that would develop artificial general intelligence for the \u201cbenefit of humanity.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cTo this day, OpenAI, Inc.\u2018s website continues to profess that its charter is to ensure that AGI benefits all of humanity.\u2019 In reality, however, OpenAI, Inc. has been transformed into a closed-source de facto subsidiary of the largest technology company in the world: Microsoft,\u201d the lawsuit filing said.<\/p>\n
Musk\u2019s lawyers said that OpenAI\u2019s focus on maximizing profits for Microsoft breaks that agreement.<\/p>\n
\u201cUnder its new Board, it is not just developing but is actually refining an AGI to maximize profits for Microsoft, rather than for the benefit of humanity,\u201d the filing said.<\/p>\n
The lawyers also said the lawsuit was submitted \u201cto compel OpenAI to adhere to the Founding Agreement and return to its mission to develop AGI for the benefit of humanity, not to personally benefit the individual Defendants and the largest technology company in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
