Tom Cotton Leads Senators in Letter to Biden: &#8216;Undermining Israeli Operations&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) led four other GOP senators in a letter condemning President Joe Biden for \u201cundermining Israeli operations against Hamas in Gaza.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The letter discussed Biden\u2019s February 1 executive order, which <a href=\"https:\/\/ofac.treasury.gov\/media\/932576\/download?inline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">claimed<\/a> there were \u201chigh levels of extremist settler violence, forced displacement of people and villages, and property destruction\u201d in the \u201cWest Bank.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese actions undermine the foreign policy objectives of the United States, including the viability of a two-state solution and ensuring Israelis and Palestinians can attain equal measures of security, prosperity, and freedom,\u201d the executive order read.<\/p>\n<p>The senators wrote to Biden, \u201cUnder the guise of \u2018peace, security, or stability of the West Bank,\u2019 it appears the State Department can punish arbitrarily any Israeli it wants. Yet, the State Department hasn\u2019t acted against the Palestinian Authority, which makes \u2018pay to slay\u2019 payments to terrorists for murdering innocent Israeli families.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cotton\u2019s letter also addressed Biden\u2019s February 8 memorandum, which \u201cfalsely\u201d implied that \u201cIsraeli is committing mass war crimes in its campaign against Hamas and threatens to cut off aid unless Israel meets arbitrary deadlines for providing \u2018assurances\u2019 regarding international humanitarian law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYet, we already have rules requiring aid recipients to comply with applicable law and in line with American interests. Moreover, Israel has provided ample evidence of the steps it takes to avoid civilian casualties, which Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the National Security Council, John Kirby, acknowledged publicly,\u201d the senators noted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou should immediately rescind both your February 1 order and February 8 memorandum. Further, please provide Congress no later than March 15 with a full explanation of what evidentiary basis and processes are intended to be employed when choosing to sanction Israelis while ignoring the serious crimes committed by the Palestinian Authority,\u201d they concluded.<\/p>\n<p>The letter was signed by Sen. Cotton and Sens.
