{"id":12200,"date":"2024-03-02T02:58:59","date_gmt":"2024-03-01T21:28:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cccfornews.com\/index.php\/2024\/03\/02\/catherine-herridge-held-in-contempt-after-refusing-to-reveal-source\/"},"modified":"2024-03-02T02:58:59","modified_gmt":"2024-03-01T21:28:59","slug":"catherine-herridge-held-in-contempt-after-refusing-to-reveal-source","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cccfornews.com\/index.php\/2024\/03\/02\/catherine-herridge-held-in-contempt-after-refusing-to-reveal-source\/","title":{"rendered":"Catherine Herridge Held in Contempt After Refusing to Reveal Source"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_82\">\n<div class=\"tdb-block-inner td-fix-index\">\n<p>Reporter Catherine Herridge is being held in contempt after refusing to expose a confidential source.<\/p>\n<p>The source is connected to a report about a Chinese American scientist who was investigated by the FBI over a possible connection to the Chinese military.<\/p>\n<p>Herridge\u2019s 2017 reporting of the scientist, Yanping Chen, was based on portions of an FBI document, interviews, photographs, and Chen\u2019s immigration and naturalization forms, the Associated Press <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/catherine-herridge-journalist-contempt-fox-news-cbs-63f6b2cde67fceae192daebe5d11b1a1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper will fine Herridge $800 a day unless she reveals the identity of the source, although the fine will not be imposed immediately to give Herridge the opportunity to appeal.<\/p>\n<p>Cooper wrote, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Business\/wireStory\/judge-holds-veteran-journalist-catherine-herridge-civil-contempt-107699533\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ABC News<\/a>, \u201cHerridge and many of her colleagues in the journalism community may disagree with that decision and prefer that a different balance be struck, but she is not permitted to flout a federal court\u2019s order with impunity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He \u201crecognizes the paramount importance of a free press in our society,\u201d but noted that the court \u201calso has its own role to play in upholding the law and safeguarding judicial authority.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fox News said in a statement, \u201cHolding a journalist in contempt for protecting a confidential source has a deeply chilling effect on journalism.
