{"id":12003,"date":"2024-02-29T19:15:58","date_gmt":"2024-02-29T13:45:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cccfornews.com\/index.php\/2024\/02\/29\/speaker-johnson-slams-white-house-saying-jews-have-right-to-live-in-the-biblical-heartland\/"},"modified":"2024-02-29T19:15:58","modified_gmt":"2024-02-29T13:45:58","slug":"speaker-johnson-slams-white-house-saying-jews-have-right-to-live-in-the-biblical-heartland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cccfornews.com\/index.php\/2024\/02\/29\/speaker-johnson-slams-white-house-saying-jews-have-right-to-live-in-the-biblical-heartland\/","title":{"rendered":"Speaker Johnson Slams White House, Saying Jews Have Right to Live in &#8216;The Biblical Heartland\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.swncdn.com\/via\/7642-israel-flag-pixabay.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>House Speaker Mike Johnson is speaking out against a new policy by the Biden Administration on Israel and the West Bank, saying in a social media post that the \u201cJewish people have a historic and legal right to live in the land of Israel including in Judea and Samaria &#8212; the biblical heartland.\u201d<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>At issue is a new policy by the U.S. State Department that considers new Israeli housing and settlements in the West Bank \u201cinconsistent with international law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur administration maintains a firm opposition to settlement expansion, and in our judgment this only weakens, doesn&#8217;t strengthen, Israel&#8217;s security,\u201d U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said last week.<\/p>\n<p>The Biden Administration says the policy is a return to the pre-Trump policy held for decades by both Democratic and Republican presidents. In 2019, then-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced that the Trump Administration did not consider settlements in the West Bank \u201cinconsistent with international law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Johnson, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), criticized the Biden policy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a shameful decision,\u201d Johnson wrote. \u201cThe Jewish people have a historic and legal right to live in the land of Israel including in Judea and Samaria &#8212; the biblical heartland. It is an absolute disgrace the Biden administration would issue this decision, especially as Israel fights terrorists on multiple fronts that seek Israel\u2019s destruction and as more than 130 hostages remain in Gaza.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Biden Administration must stop undermining Israel and facilitating efforts to delegitimize Israel,\u201d Johnson wrote. \u201cIt is misguided and unconscionable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>David M Friedman, U.S. ambassador to Israel under former President Trump, said on social media \u201cBlinken is 100% wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI researched this for over a year with many State Department lawyers,\u201d Friedman wrote. \u201cThere is nothing illegal about Jews living in their biblical homeland. &#8230;For Blinken to announce this in the middle of a war and when the Jewish Sabbath already has begun in Israel is unconscionable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Biden administration is standing by the new policy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are simply reaffirming the fundamental conclusion that these settlements are inconsistent with international law. &#8230;That is a position that has been consistent over a range of Republican and Democratic administrations,\u201d White House national security spokesperson John Kirby said. \u201cIf there&#8217;s an administration that is being inconsistent, it was the previous one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Image credit: \u00a9Pixabay<\/em><\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p><em>Michael Foust has covered the intersection of faith and news for 20 years.
