{"id":11832,"date":"2024-02-28T13:59:19","date_gmt":"2024-02-28T08:29:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cccfornews.com\/index.php\/2024\/02\/28\/chinese-government-removes-pray-com-from-apple-app-store\/"},"modified":"2024-02-28T13:59:19","modified_gmt":"2024-02-28T08:29:19","slug":"chinese-government-removes-pray-com-from-apple-app-store","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cccfornews.com\/index.php\/2024\/02\/28\/chinese-government-removes-pray-com-from-apple-app-store\/","title":{"rendered":"Chinese Government Removes Pray.com from Apple App Store"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.swncdn.com\/via\/images\/2023\/01\/06\/28942\/28942-istockgetty-images-plustarik-kizilkaya_source_file.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Chinese government recently removed Pray.com from the Apple app store in mainland China as part of its restrictions on faith-based content.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithwire.com\/2024\/02\/23\/chinese-government-cracks-down-on-leading-christian-prayer-app-bans-it-from-download\/\">Faithwire<\/a>, the app&#8217;s removal comes as part of China&#8217;s Measures for the Administration of Internet Religious Information Services,&#8221; which went into effect in March 2022.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cecc.gov\/prior-restraints-on-religious-publishing-in-china#:~:text=The%20Chinese%20government%20forbids%20private,enterprises%20approved%20by%20the%20government.\">Congressional-Executive Commission on China<\/a>, an independent agency of the U.S. government monitoring human rights in China, noted that those restrictions placed in 2022 require a permit issued by the government when it comes to posting religious content and banning the online airing of religious ceremonies, events, and worship services.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pray.com\/\">Pray.com<\/a>, which launched in 2017, is the world&#8217;s #1 app for daily prayer and features daily-Bible reading plans and spiritual formation programs. Its removal comes several months before the National Day of Pray on May 2.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Since starting Pray.com, we&#8217;ve grown accustomed to positive relations with China,&#8221; cofounder Michael Lynn said. &#8220;President Xi [Jinping] has allowed for the printing of nearly 150 million Bibles per year, and [former] President [Donald] Trump ensured that Bibles were exempt from Chinese tariffs.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Steve Gatena, founder and CEO of Pray.com, said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/pray-com-addresses-apple-app-190000646.html\">press release<\/a>, &#8220;In response to these limitations, our team is exploring alternative avenues to deliver our content and services to people in mainland China. As we work on a solution, I want to personally extend an invitation to President Xi Jinping to join us for this year&#8217;s National Day of Prayer event in Washington, D.C.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the years, the Chinese Communist Party has cracked on Christianity, even to the point of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithwire.com\/2022\/02\/17\/chinas-communist-government-is-reportedly-rewriting-the-bible-and-calling-jesus-a-sinner-but-thats-not-all\/\">rewriting<\/a> Scripture and calling Jesus a &#8220;sinner.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, the CCP announced that it would start &#8220;updat[ing] the Bible to &#8216;keep pace with the times.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The revisions will include adding &#8216;core socialist values&#8217; and removing passages that do not reflect communist beliefs,&#8221; The Voice of the Martyrs, a watchdog for Christian persecution, said. &#8220;In a textbook for high school students released in September 2020, the authors included a passage from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblestudytools.com\/john\/8.html\">John 8<\/a>, as revised in their new version.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.cbn.com\/news\/cwn\/chinese-communists-latest-crackdown-forcing-registration-religion-app-sparks-persecution\">CBN News<\/a> reported last year, Chinese officials are testing out an app requiring citizens to pre-register to attend religious services.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This spring, in Henan province, they rolled out an app to get approval to go to any kind of religious service,&#8221; Todd Nettleton of VOM explained. &#8220;What that means is you need to have the app on your phone.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You need to pre-register in order to go to a religious gathering, give the Chinese government all of your information, tell them who you are, where you live, your ID information, and so forth,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p data-v-27313d80=\"\"><span style=\"font-size: 11px;\">Photo Credit: \u00a9iStock\/Getty Images Plus\/TARIK KIZILKAYA<\/span><\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p><em>Milton Quintanilla is a freelance writer and content creator.
