{"id":11790,"date":"2024-02-28T07:51:02","date_gmt":"2024-02-28T02:21:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cccfornews.com\/index.php\/2024\/02\/28\/taliban-continues-public-stadium-executions-despite-human-rights-complaints\/"},"modified":"2024-02-28T07:51:02","modified_gmt":"2024-02-28T02:21:02","slug":"taliban-continues-public-stadium-executions-despite-human-rights-complaints","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cccfornews.com\/index.php\/2024\/02\/28\/taliban-continues-public-stadium-executions-despite-human-rights-complaints\/","title":{"rendered":"Taliban Continues Public Stadium Executions Despite Human Rights Complaints"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_82\">\n<div class=\"tdb-block-inner td-fix-index\">\n<p>The Taliban has continued public executions despite international calls to end the activity.<\/p>\n<p>The latest execution occurred on Monday when a man convicted of murder was shot five times with a rifle in a stadium, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/justthenews.com\/world\/asia\/taliban-hold-public-execution-thousands-onlookers-afghanistan-stadium\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Just the News<\/a>, which noted that the execution was the \u201cthird death sentence to be carried out over the past five days, and the fifth public execution since the Taliban seized control of Afghanistan in August 2021.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn Thursday, two men who were convicted of stabbing people to death were executed by gunshot in a stadium by relatives of the victims,\u201d the outlet reported.<\/p>\n<p>Amnesty International\u2019s interim Deputy Regional Director for South Asia Livia Saccardi issued a statement on the executions, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amnesty.org\/en\/latest\/news\/2024\/02\/afghanistan-taliban-must-halt-all-executions-and-abolish-death-penalty\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">saying<\/a>, \u201cWe oppose all executions as a violation of the right to life. The Taliban has been repeatedly carrying them out publicly which is a gross affront to human dignity as well as a violation of international laws and standards and cannot be tolerated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmnesty International reiterates that the Taliban de-facto authorities must immediately halt all executions and abolish the death penalty and other cruel, inhuman, or degrading punishments. Carrying out executions in public adds to the inherent cruelty of the death penalty and can only have a dehumanizing effect on the victim and a brutalizing effect on those who witness the executions. Meanwhile, the protection of the right to a fair trial under the Taliban\u2019s de facto authority remains seriously concerning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s high time that the international community and the UN up the pressure on the blatant human rights violations by the Taliban and help ensure that international safeguards are respected in Afghanistan,\u201d Saccardi continued.<\/p>\n<p>United Nations spokesman Stephane Dujarric <a href=\"https:\/\/press.un.org\/en\/2024\/db240226.doc.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> the \u201cpublic nature of execution is extremely heinous, and we continue to stand against the use of the death penalty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voanews.com\/a\/taliban-execute-convicted-killer-in-afghan-sports-stadium\/7502553.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Voice of America<\/a>, the Taliban has flogged several hundred other individuals in sports stadiums since 2021.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/americanfaith.com\/taliban-continues-public-stadium-executions-despite-human-rights-complaints\/\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Taliban has continued public executions despite international calls to end the activity.
