After their eyebrows return to their resting place, they usually stammer, \u201cUh, yes. I think so.\u201d<em>\u00a0You think so?\u00a0<\/em><strong>Marriage is a commitment, but it is also a calling.<\/strong> Not everyone is called to be married. I\u2019m sure your mind is filling up with examples from your extended family who fit the bill.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In their book and premarital program <em>Called Together<\/em>, Steve and Mary Prokopchak explain that premarital counseling \u201chelps to build a couple\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.christianity.com\/jesus\/following-jesus\/repentance-faith-and-salvation\/what-does-faith-mean.html\">faith<\/a>, or it will reveal to the couple that they are, in fact, not called together.\u201d More <a href=\"https:\/\/www.christianity.com\/\">Christians<\/a> need to stop asking if their future spouse is \u201cthe one for me\u201d and start asking if their future spouse is \u201cthe one I am called to be with.\u201d When you know that the Lord has called you together with your spouse, arguments, different values, and even tragedies won\u2019t tear you apart. This is why marriage must be a communal decision. Far too many lovestruck twenty-somethings (and fifty-somethings, for that matter) marry without seeking honest input from their family, pastors, and friends. When you\u2019re called to marry a person, your faith community will know it, too.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Now we\u2019re cooking.
