Several universities required that students read the 2021 book \u201cHow to Blow Up A Pipeline,\u201d according to a report<\/a> from The Daily Wire.<\/p>\n \u201cIn this lyrical manifesto, noted climate scholar (and saboteur of SUV tires and coal mines) Andreas Malm makes an impassioned call for the climate movement to escalate its tactics in the face of ecological collapse,\u201d a description<\/a> for the book reads. \u201cWe need, he argues, to force fossil fuel extraction to stop\u2014with our actions, with our bodies, and by defusing and destroying its tools. We need, in short, to start blowing up some oil pipelines.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cOffering a counter-history of how mass popular change has occurred, from the democratic revolutions overthrowing dictators to the movement against apartheid and for women\u2019s suffrage, Malm argues that the strategic acceptance of property destruction and violence has been the only route for revolutionary change,\u201d it continues.<\/p>\n A University of California, Berkeley course, Geography & Interactive Biology, utilized the book, according to the report.<\/p>\n The course focsues on the \u201cscientific practice of modern botanical taxonomy as a colonial formation that conditions our modern relations,\u201d according to a guide<\/a>.<\/p>\n Other universities that required the book include: City University of New York, Arizona State University, University of California, San Diego, University of Washington, Illinois State University, and Ohio State University.<\/p>\n The New York Times interviewed<\/a> Malm on his \u201cclimate radicalism,\u201d noting that \u201cit\u2019s hard to think that deaths don\u2019t become inevitable if there is more sabotage.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cSure, if you have a thousand pipeline explosions per year, if it takes on that extreme scale,\u201d Malm said. \u201cBut we are some distance from that, unfortunately.\u201d<\/p>\n He added that he wants \u201csabotage to happen on a much larger scale than it does now. I can\u2019t guarantee that it won\u2019t come with accidents. But what do I know? I haven\u2019t personally blown up a pipeline, and I can\u2019t foretell the future.\u201d<\/p>\n American Faith reported<\/a> that UC San Diego further pushed climate radicalism by requiring undergraduate students to complete a one-quarter course about climate change.<\/p>\n \u201cThe establishment of this new graduation requirement for incoming first-year students, beginning fall 2024, is designed to empower our students with the knowledge and skills needed to confront the urgent global challenge of climate change,\u201d\u00a0reads<\/a>\u00a0the announcement.<\/p>\n According to the announcement, the development \u201cdoes not increase the number of courses required for graduation,\u201d as the climate change education requirement \u201cwill overlap with general education or Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) courses, as well as courses that apply to major and minor requirements.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
