{"id":10625,"date":"2024-02-20T07:29:12","date_gmt":"2024-02-20T01:59:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cccfornews.com\/index.php\/2024\/02\/20\/house-democrats-condemn-appearance-of-radical-christian-nationalist-pastor-jack-hibbs\/"},"modified":"2024-02-20T07:29:12","modified_gmt":"2024-02-20T01:59:12","slug":"house-democrats-condemn-appearance-of-radical-christian-nationalist-pastor-jack-hibbs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cccfornews.com\/index.php\/2024\/02\/20\/house-democrats-condemn-appearance-of-radical-christian-nationalist-pastor-jack-hibbs\/","title":{"rendered":"House Democrats Condemn Appearance of &#8216;Radical Christian Nationalist&#8217; Pastor Jack Hibbs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>In January, California pastor Jack Hibbs was invited by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) to serve as the House of Representatives\u2019 guest chaplain.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty-six House Democrats then signed a <a href=\"https:\/\/huffman.house.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/Final_Huffman%20Letter%20Opposing%20Speaker%20Johnson%20Guest%20Chaplain.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">letter<\/a> condemning the pastor\u2019s opening prayer.<\/p>\n<p>The letter, led by Reps. Jared Huffman (D-CA), Jamie Raskin (D-MD), and Mark Pocan (D-WI) called Hibbs a \u201cradical Christian Nationalist who helped fuel the January 6th insurrection and has a long record of spewing hateful vitriol toward non-Christians, immigrants, and members of the LGBTQ community.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe should never have been granted the right to deliver the House\u2019s opening prayer on January 30, 2024,\u201d the letter read.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen his opening prayer invoked \u2018holy fear\u2019 and \u2018repentance\u2019 for \u2018national sins,\u2019 these were allusions to the militant and fanatical agenda he preaches about the LGBTQ+ community, Jews, Muslims, and anyone who conflicts with his \u2018biblical worldview,&#8217;\u201d the Democrats added.<\/p>\n<p>Hibbs\u2019 said in his <a href=\"https:\/\/chaplain.house.gov\/chaplaincy\/display_gc.html?id=4734\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">prayer<\/a>, \u201cHear my cry in this hour of great need that we might be humbly blessed before You in repentance of our national sins,\u201d and, \u201cSo please come upon those here who are the stewards over the business of our Nation with Your wisdom which comes from above and with Your holy fear knowing that Your coming day of judgment draws near when all who have been and are now in authority will answer to You, the great judge of heaven and of Earth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese facts suggest a breathtaking lack of consideration for the religious diversity of our Congress and pluralistic nation,\u201d the representatives wrote. \u201cIt appears that Speaker Johnson \u2013 with the tacit approval of the House Chaplain \u2013 decided to flout the Chaplaincy guidelines and use the platform of the Guest Chaplain to lend the imprimatur of Congress to an ill-qualified hate preacher who shares the Speaker\u2019s Christian nationalist agenda and his overriding antipathy toward church-state separation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe should all be able to agree that the Guest Chaplain program should not be used as a political tool, nor should it be implemented in a way that favors one religion over others or applies inappropriate religious tests,\u201d they added, going on to suggest that \u201cNonetheistic Chaplain Dan Barker\u201d is a \u201cfully qualified\u201d individual for the program.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">House Dems Furious After Guest Chaplain Jack Hibbs of the Calvary Chapel in Chino Hills, California Dares to Tell the Truth About Liberal America. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/JCJtBh9Mhj\">pic.twitter.com\/JCJtBh9Mhj<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Denn Dunham (@DennD68) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DennD68\/status\/1759632165254389907?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 19, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Rep.
