I sit beside the fire and think,

<\/em>of meadow-flowers and butterflies
<\/em>\u00a0 \u00a0in summers that have been;<\/em><\/p>\n

Of yellow leaves and gossamer
<\/em>\u00a0 \u00a0in autumns that there were,
<\/em>with morning mist and silver sun
<\/em>\u00a0 \u00a0and wind upon my hair.<\/em><\/p>\n

I sit beside the fire and think
<\/em>\u00a0 \u00a0of how the world will be
<\/em>when winter comes without a spring
<\/em>\u00a0 \u00a0that I shall never see.<\/em><\/p>\n

For still there are so many things
<\/em>\u00a0 \u00a0that I have never seen:
<\/em>in every wood in every spring
<\/em>\u00a0 \u00a0there is a different green.<\/em><\/p>\n

I sit beside the fire and think
<\/em>\u00a0 \u00a0of people long ago,
<\/em>and people who will see a world
<\/em>\u00a0 \u00a0 that I will never know.<\/em><\/p>\n

But all the while I sit and think
<\/em>\u00a0 \u00a0of times there were before,
<\/em>I listen for returning feet
<\/em>\u00a0 \u00a0and voices at the door.<\/em><\/p>\n
